The Great Deku Tree
The Great Deku Tree of the Wind Waker was the product of Link's quest in the Ocarina of Time. After Link conquered the forest temple, the Deku Sprout grew as a result of the forest's refertilization.
However, the GDT in the WW is inside a tree formation. This inconsistency can only be resolved by this solution: After Zelda sent Link back to his childhood (OoT), the GDT was alive and well. Because of the obvious life span of trees of his magnitude, he lived to see the Great Flood that was wrought to keep Ganon from escaping.
The Great Deku Tree realized that he would die. In an effort to save his kind and his people (the Kokiri), he placed his last seed in his central cavity. The Kokiri he transformed into creatures that could survive outside of the forest.
He sent the Kokiri to the highest mountain he could remember, (Death Mountain), and told them not to return until the flooding was over and the skies safe for travel.
The Kokiri had a massive impact on another race, the Rito (talked about later) during their stay on Death Mountain.
They returned to find the Great Deku Tree completely transformed, and dead as a doornail. The massive power of the water had completely torn away his whole top, leaving the previously enclosed central cavity entirely in the open, with just walls of his former power remaining.
The Kokiri did not spend much time in grief. As creations of the first Great Deku Tree, three-hundred fifty-one generations into the past, they were somewhat used to the frequent (to an immortal) passing of their masters.
