It had been an exhausting flight for the Canton Rouge leader. While he knew of the uncertainty of meeting with a fascist nation, Marc Dentonnine needed to get whatever allies he could against the Soviets, and surely, his neighbor to the east would understand this. And if not, well, he really didn't want to go down that path of occupation because of a nation helping its neighbor out. As his private jet landed at Leonardo da Vinci International, he noticed the Roman president waiting, in not the togas of the past, but rather, a standard uniform. And instead of a massive guard, two men were watching over, ensuring no harm to their leader. After making his way off the plane to the Roman leader, Marc bellowed, "So, you must be Duce Archimedes. I am Marc Dentonnine, President of the United Provinces of Canton Rouge." "I noticed my British counterpart has not arrived. A shame, but I have been able to at least ensure support from him for the Clamparapan cause, if only with words, and not soldiers. But now, let us discuss options on rebuilding Porcu. Hopefully, this will also give me more time to work out how my men will assist Clamparapa..." ==================================== Near the Clamparapan border... It had been an exhausting drive for the 17th Army Group of Canton Rouge. The need to transport the 41st, 101st, and 7th Infantry Divisions; the33rd Armoured Brigade; the 2nd Mechanized Brigade; and the 14th and 26th Air Wings was amazing all on its own. But with only 100 miles remaining to the border, the men hoped Clamparapa would rest easy, knowing that help would be arriving...

"Certainly!" Archimedes said bidding his guest to follow him to a small motorcade which was waiting to take the two leaders to the Duce's residence. "I am very disappointed with Blair's response to this conference and would like to let you know that I shall not forget your good faith today."
"Now" Duce Archimedes said as President Dentonnine entered the motorcar and the two were soon on their way. "The biggest thing Porcu needs at this time is free trade and investments. With the dissolution of the SPQR all trade and military agreements have been terminated and because Mr. Blair turned down my invitation today I am happy to say that Canton Rouge now retains priority in these matters with Porcu."
"Domestic investment is on the rise but is not nearly at the level that I need to rebuild Porcu as quickly as I would like. Canton Rouge's trade policies are a natural fit to Porcu's long history of free trade and I hope that with your agreement we can come away from today's meeting with at least a new, more solid trade agreement."
By the time Archimedes wrapped up his little monologue the motorcade had already begun to slow down and eventually stopped directly in front of the Duce's Romanesque residence. Both gentlemen entered and were lead to a private area, Dentonnine guessed it was the Duce's library, and quickly given two drinks before having the doors behind them shut. Archimedes bid his guest to sit and be comfortable and to feel free to ask for any accommodations.
"I hope that my actions have not raised too much of an alarm from you. I can assure you that I only mean to send a strong message and it seems that the British have already lost sight of what tough diplomacy is. I'm glad that you are not as fickle as they. Again, my orders to open all of Porcu's ICBM silos was meant to send a clear message to the Soviets as well as the world; if anything you must admit that direct military confrontation has virtually ceased between Soviet and Clamparan forces. As of now I have still not tossed aside the possibility of launching a conventional ICBM strike against the Soviets should their actions prove as dangerous and threatening as I believe they may become. Yet, at the same time I am truely embarrassed to say that Porcu is in no position to fight a conventional war. Our economy is recovering as it is and the military is still being reorganized and refitted, years of neglect by the Roman Senate have put Porcu in a horrible position. However, that does not mean that I am committed to working with all nations in coming to a reasonable conclusion to this conflict..."
Taking a moment to sip a bit of wine from his glass Archimedes soon continued. If there was something still in abundance in Porcu it was fine wine.
"I do not wish to talk forever Mr. Dentonnine. Please, what do you have to mention?"

Marc smiled, then replied, "Aye, it is a shame that the British won't want to help out a fellow country, but should the moment come, he will see a new light. As for the ICBM's, we reasoned that you would be more than likely to attack the Russians rather than the rest of the world. And hopefully, the Russians will see the error of not sending any oil out from the captured refineries, rather than let the world respond for them."
"This leads me to my next point," he continued. "I have received a message from Dimitri Ingraslov, the Soviet leader. He has threatened he will destroy the oil reserves if anyone tries to rescue Clamparapa. Of course, I assume he will take what he can get, then destroy the refineries if we sit and wait, so either way, it would be lose lose. That's why I took the risk and secretly sent an influx of my troops along the north through uninhabited Asia to reach Clamparapa. They should be arriving soon, and hopefully, with Col. Saul Tigh's approval, we can move on against the Russians. Mind you, a lot is being risked, but if we do not act, the Russians may potentially launch ICBM's against not only Clamparapa, but also British possesions in the Far East, the oil wealthy nations of the Mid-East, and Eastern Europe."
"Now, onto trade matters, we would be more than happy to assist Porcu in whatever rebuilding efforts deemed necessary. As you know, our nation has become a huge leader in banking, with only a couple nations being able to match that industry. We would also be more than happy to bolster trade with our southern neighbors, as we both would be walking away benefiting each other."
Marc once again took a sip from his wine glass, and in his mind, he knew that if the meeting went the way it did, he would have another ally, one less threat, and most importantly, a nation who could voice a strong opinion against the Russians.
"So, Duce Archimedes, I've given you an overview of what I have to say. What else would you like to discuss on the matters of trade, or Russia?"

"On the matters of trade and Russia I would say that I am very pleased to hear that you are willing to lend a helping hand to Porcu at a very desperate time. Furthermore, I am impressed to hear that you actually authorized a force to be sent into the conflict..."
Duce Archimedes had an epiphany. Porcu may actually be able to lend an immediate hand of support to the Cantons and Clamparapans should the situation every deteriorate to that point. With forces from Canton Rouge providing information on the ground that Porcu's military couldn't find out it would be possible to coordinate a missile strike against any Soviet target using Canton ground intelligence and Porcuian missile capabilities. If anything mobile missile launchers could be deployed and sent closer to the Soviet border.
Taken a moment to explain his idea to Dentonnine Archimedes then asked if the Canton approved of the idea. If not, Archimedes asked what possible assistance Porcu could lend.

OOC: Sorry for the double post but Porcu is changing again...Again, apologizes IC: The Pope Is DeadDuce Lucius Archimedes hints at blood relation to medieval Pope, claim to Papal throneYesterday afternoon at approximately 4:26 local time in the Vatican Pope Urban XII died of complications from a heart attack he suffered several days before. Doctors believed that they the Pope was progressing well from treatment after his heart attack and did not expect his condition to take a turn for the worse. Needless to say all Porcuians and Roman Catholics across the world are saddened by the Pope's passing but are still keeping his memory alive. Pope Urban XII was a devout man who worked effortlessly for the poor, promoting charitable giving everywhere he went. Unlike his immediate predecessors, Urban was not too keen on the political front believing that such things conflicted with his duties as the shepherd of the flock, the leader of the Church. Urban was a well respected man who will be sorely missed at desperate times for Porcu such as this; his presence was always a calming one. However, now begins the struggle to find a new Pope and already resistance is being met from the Roman populace themselves. Several orthodox bishops have tried in vain to enter the Vatican in order to elect a successor to Urban XII as the Roman mob persists that Duce Archimedes' claim to the Papal throne is legitimate and deserving. Archimedes himself has not commented on the situation and neither has any other government official. Details surrounding Archimedes' blood lineage are not well known but it is true that one of the Duce's ancestors was a Duke himself with ties to the Papacy, though this connection is not thought to be through blood. But in any case, the details were not relevant as seemingly pious Romans crowded St. Peter's square demanding that Archimedes take his rightful place as the new Pope. ====================================================== - PBC Broadcast, Later That Day - "Yes...yes, we're getting new information now regarding the Papal situation here in Rome and...yes, it appears that white smoke has been seen from the chimney of...and...and...we're taking you live to St. Peter's square with Luigi Barra!" "Alessandro, this is incredible after only a hour of delegation it appears as if the bishops and cardinals that were let into the Vatican by this mob have chosen the new Pope. And...it's Archimedes!!!" "Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum: Habemus Papam! Eminentissimum ac Reverendissimum Dominum, Dominum Lucius Archimedes, qui sibi nomen imposuit Clement XVII"This is incredible! Former Duce of Porcu Lucius Archimedes has been elected as the new Pope and this is certainly a historical occasion. Now viewers at home may be wondering exactly how such an election is possible and under Canon Law any Catholic man in good standing can be elected pope; i.e. cardinal, bishop, priest, deacon, or Catholic layman. However, one cannot doubt the influence that the Roman mob had on this election, though we may never truely find out..." ================================================== Papal States Declared Once AgainArchimedes, now Pope Clement XII, will rule over Porcu as both religious and temporal rulerThe Papal States are officially back, now under the guise of Porcu, and nothing besides the national flag has changed substantially. All things government will now be passed to Pope Clement XII and as a "measure of good faith" Clement has order all ICBM silos to be closed. Speaking to a crowd estimated at several hundred thousands the Pope declared, "...Claims made against my valid election as the Bishop of Rome need to be cast aside and forgotten. Porcu cannot divulge in the past, she must move on not only for her citizens but the world at large. The world needs Porcu to stand strong once again against the powers of corruption, heresy, communism, and totalitarianism. Some will try and persuade you that Porcu has gone back to the days of Mussolini type dictatorship, but I ask "Were those times that bad?" Mussolini gave his people unprecedented civil freedoms in exchange that they keep out of the political arena. Under Mussolini and his successor Field Marshal Messe Porcu's economy grew at a pace that other nations became envious of. Her armies were the talk of the world and her people were looked up to. This is the dream that I wish to accomplish and as long as I have your support we can work together to achieve any goal we set for ourselves!" Speaking about the current conflict occurring in Clamparapa, His Holiness stated that all peaceful avenues must be researched and that the situation may get worse before it gets better. He also announced his orders to close all ICBM silos and re-invited the British Prime Minister to Rome in order to meet with him and Canton President Marc Dentonnine to try and come up with workable solutions.

Canton Rouge Internal Newsfeed Update! It has been confirmed. Porcu has been rebuilt into the Papal States. Apart from being ruled in a new fashion, not a whole lot has changed within the country. Meanwhile, Pope Clement XII has asked for a peaceful resolve to the ongoing crisis in Clamparapa. Moving onto the crisis, we can now confirm the presence of Canton Rouge forces within Clamparapa, aiding the nation against the Soviets. No word yet has come from the world on this, as we are speaking on a secure newsfeed viewable only to Canton Rouge. We will update you as soon as we can. Meanwhile, oil prices continue to skyrocket..... =============== Marc nodded at Duce's idea, a Cantonian tradition that mean 'yes'. OOC: Sorry for the second part being brief, Por. I just wanted my guy to confirm it.

"As thousands of Catholics leave the country on a pilgrimage to see the new Pope, Britain's airports are struggling to cope with demand. The backlog of special flights put on to Rome was not aided when the presence of the Prime Minister's personal jet, dubbed 'Blair Force One' by the media, meant all other departures had to be shut down for over an hour.
"It is believed that Blair, a recent convert to Catholicism, has flown to meet the Pope following the Papal order to stand down his nations ICBM's.
"Meanwhile it was announced today by the Ministry of Defence that the first stages of the Empire's controversial missile defence network went online today. With the threat of a nuclear strike from Russia remaining high the project has been brought forward. It is not known if this means that the system is fully operational or simply a threat to the Russians that Britain will eliminate any possible first strike capability they have.
"Finally, the Pacific fleet today left Pearl Harbour and has steamed toward the Siberian peninsula. The composition of the fleet is not known, but it is believed that the Nuclear submarines Vanguard, Vengeance and Victory are a part of it, each carrying up to 16 nuclear weapons. These are renowned for being the Empire's first strike weapons, clearly this is an escalation of the current tensions between the nations."

Pope Clement sat off to the side of the airport terminal anxiously awaiting the arrival of Prime Minister Blair, whom had managed to leave the company of British reporters and journalists at the last moment before he had boarded his jet in London. Many political analysts had already begun to predict and lavishly boast about their own knowledge of the legendary history of Britain and Porcu as well as the "Special Relationship" which had no doubt seen the worse of its recent history at least since the days of Hess, Mussolini, and the brief war.
Pope Clement however was in no particular mood to have the relationship fully bloom back to its sunny and glorious days. More pressing issues now commanded his attention, especially those concerning of Papal doctrine and orthodoxy. Even after just assuming the throne of the Papacy Clement had already excommunicated and banished a well known scholar as well as asserting Rome's dominance over the cities of Constantinople, Antioch, and Alexandria all of which had been survived the course of history because of Porcu's historical connection to the Papacy. Although Orthodox Christianity currently existed it was truely only to be found in Russia, Byzantine Catholics, as Eastern Mediterranean Orthodox followers called themselves still fell in line with Rome but were eager to branch off and if possible retake Constantinople.
Besides wishing to regain British interest in Porcu Clement also wished to firmly establish the Papacy's influence over Continental Europe once again. Now His Holiness sat and waited for Blair to arrive and then meet up again with President Dentonnine so that the three major European leaders could collaborate and decide a possible outcome to the increasingly difficult Soviet-Clamparapan problem.
OOC: I'm trying to establish religion into our RPs again so that they can become more complex, more real. I've got some ideas for future RPs and I'll be sending out PMs as soon as this is wrapped up and done with...

"The Prime Minister landed in Rome today to a chorus of boos from the natives, most likely relating to the Embassy massacre some 12 months ago. This is the first time the Prime Minister has set foot on Porcuian soil since the event, and many in the country still believe that a public apology should be made to the victims families.
"He greeted the new pope who has since taken the PM to join in discussions with President Dentonnine over the course of action to take in the Russian held oil fields. Discussions are likely to be heated as the Prime Minister has moved the Empires renowned first strike nuclear fleet into the area.
"We will of course bring more as we get it."
OOC - I wasnt entriley sure how the pope was going to respond to my arrival so Ive left it to you Porcu, I didnt want to RP your brand new character while I know nothing about him. By all means let Tony do some talking. Also does anyone know where Clamps is? If so get him back in here or I may consider ending this myself for the sake of the rest of the forum. I dont want to get bogged down on one RP for too long, in case it grows stale.

OOC: Holy Snap. My router was being stupid and not letting me access the internet. Thankfully we fixed it...
IC Hundreds of Clamparapan citizens were now under the control of the Russians. These people were reduced to little more than animals, with thousands of Russians flocking to their new homes in the province. The Clamparapans were forced into hard labour, segregated from the Soviets, and attacked, both mentally and physically. Independent journalists sent pictures of the injustice back to countries all over the region.
Meanwhile, 10 of the 17 disguised themselves as Russian couples, and paired off to go infiltrate the enemy's society. The remaining 7 infilitrated the army as pilots, soldiers, and medics. They would meet again in the future, but that was to be later on.
Rayla Gerranti flew her jet high over the Russian North, trying to locate the Canton Rouge troops. As she looked down, she saw what looked to be a convoy and moved closer to investigate. Before she knew it, one of the S-300 launchers in the convoy locked on and fired at her aircraft. Panicked, she tried to evade but the missile was much faster than her high altitude spy plane. She pulle dthe ejection lever, but as she came speeding towards the ground, her chute opened too late. With a sickening thud, her body hit the ground, and she was knocked into unconciousness...
The Canton Rouge troops met up with the CRA (Clamparapan Royal Army) commander, Scott Dernwitz. "Man are we glad to see you guys! I already have orders for your army to head south, to the province of Relican, to assist in defence of that province. It is the closest to the occupation and I need not tell you that it is the likely next target..."

OCC: It's not necessarily true that you don't know my new leader...He is Archimedes you know
IC:
"Mr. Tony Blair, it is a pleasure to meet you and I am honored to have welcomed you here..." Pope Clement, aka Lucius Archimedes, said as he lead Tony Blair down the various halls of the Duce's Palace. Although Archimedes was now residing in the Vatican and the Pope's living quarters he did make sure to have the meeting of the three leaders in a temporal building, showing that he was a religious as well as a temporal leader as well.
Making no mention of the less than welcoming reception Prime Minister Blair received upon his arrival in Rome Pope Clement continued on with a boring but time consuming trivial conversation. Blair was quite relieved when it was apparent that they had arrived to their destination. A pair of Porcuian military guards stood at the entrance and saluted when His Holiness came before them. One then graciously opened the door while the other simply continued to stare directly ahead.
Canton President Marc Dentonnine was already in the meeting room comfortably seated off to the left and Pope Clement was informed that he had only been waiting a few minutes. Taking a moment to order a few glasses of wine before beginning the meeting Pope Clement whispered to a servant in Latin and then sat down himself.
"Well, I would like to start by saying that I am honored to have you two here today. President Dentonnine has been so kind as to stay here in Rome a few extra days and now that you are here", looking over at Blair, "I believe that we can get something meaningful accomplished here today. Before I ask anything of you I would expect your questions to be answered and so if there is anything you gentlemen would like to know I shall do my best to answer them. If not, I ask you 'What are the options for dealing with the Soviet threat?'"

President Dentonnine started off by mentioning, "It is obvious that negotiations have failed to remove the Soviets from Angton. Therefore, I wish to say that if they refuse to pull out immediately, then the world must unite to use force to remove the Soviets. It is that, or we can sit around, and watch oil continue to skyrocket, while innocent Clamparapans continuously suffer from the atrocities of the Soviets." "I don't want to alarm Prime Minister Blair, but I already have ordered a contigent of soldiers to Clamparapa to support defensive measure as of right now. But if needed, they may end up being the spearhead into the liberation of the Angton province. While we run the risk of the Soviets obliterating the oil fields there, they would be stupid to do so, as that will only unite more nations behind the Clamparapans." "Meanwhile, our satellites have found intelligence that the Soviets may have outside help. They have reported heavily armed men with weaponry not found on the Soviets, in addition to them being in different uniforms. We believe they may be a mercenary group. Meanwhile, there also seems to be American vehicles inside the Soviet territory, but we're not sure who sent them. We think it might be the Pacific States Coalition, but no movement has come from the PSC area, and if there was movement, then they must have used different shipping lanes." "Prime Minister Blair, Pope Clement, that is what I have on the Soviet threat. Do you wish to add anything on?" ======================= Clamparapa Captain Renald Vacler met with the CRA Commander, and after he mentioned the orders, he replied, "Will do." He then turned to the waiting convoy and barked, "Alright, your orders are to head south along the highway until you reach the southern end of the Relican Province. Once there, set up defensive measures, and wait for orders! Move out!" As the convoy began rumbling down the highway, Renald turned back to Scott, and said, "We're glad we finally made it here. We've spent the last few days driving non-stop in barren icy roads to get here, and you won't believe how easy it is to get stopped by a vehicle that goes off the road. At least we didn't have to deal with mechanical issues, which would have really slowed down the convoy." "Before I forget though, before we entered Clamparapa, we encountered a Soviet spy plane that we shot down. The pilot ejected, but her parachute opened much late. We debated whether to send a HMMWV out, but since it was far out, we didn't want to risk sending in one vehicle to retrieve a pilot. More than likely though, she ended up dead."

"I have mentioned this to Mr. Dentonnine already but Porcu's military resources are stretched thin and although it is embarrassing it is true that Porcu is in no way shape or form prepared for a collective military strike. Despite Porcu's long history of outright hostility towards the World Assembly I do believe that if there was a moment for those nations to kick into gear it would be now. I am slated to speak in front of the World Assembly in three days time and will do my best to try and persuade the Security Council to pass some resolutions that bar trade and financial assets to the Soviets. If my memory serves me correctly I believe I will be the first Porcuian to speak in front of the World Assembly in over 150 years and only the third Porcuian in history." Pope Clement noted with a slight laugh.
"Besides for diplomatic efforts the most that Porcu can contribute militarily would be several mobile ICBM and battlefield rocket units."
Since the days of Field Marshal Messe's tenure as Duce Porcu's military had slowly been reorganized to include units such as the ones Clement now offered for battle. With their exteriors as well as several internal components including the engine being coated in a special paint those specific units are essentially invisible to satellite imaging and various heat sensors. This provided the opportunity for such units to advance very close to enemy positions and provide great damage as well as psychological tolls on the enemy, providing a much easier battle for the infantry, tank, and advance air units.
With a thick Siberian forest added in to the battlefield situation several such units could prove to be a nasty thorn to the Soviets...

Rayla woke up with a strange man looking at her. "Hello. Welcome to Russia," he said with a thick accent. "My name is Krashinov. I live in the village down the valley."
Rayla sat up, rubbed her head, and introduced herself. "Are you Soviets?" she asked.
Krashinov shook his head and explained that he was part of a group of Russian citizens who were fed up with the Soviets. They had conducted several successful raids on the enemy and were planning a major assault. Just as he said this, jets, marked with the Red Star, flew over. Bombs whistled down, and the village exploded in fire and smoke. Rayla and Krashinov were thrown back; the destruction in front of them was devestating...
"A Soviet spy plane? Good job. We'll look for the...." Suddenly, klaxons sounded. "What is going on?" Scott ordered of his comm. officer.
"Enemy forces are advancing towards Relican! They are pushing towards the border and will enter the province in approximately 24 hours. We can get there in 18 hours, but we won't have much time to set up a defense. Your orders?"
"Move out! We need to hold that province!"

"Our attached air wings should arrive ahead of the convoy. That'll buy some time while the rest set up a defensive line. If we're lucky, we can set up chokepoints and massacre the oncoming Russians. It'll be risky though, we don't know the strength of the Russians." Renald mentioned to Scott, before heading back out with the convoy....
