An enormous cheer rose up from the crowd below him. He grinned and watched as the MiG/C-130 convoy soared overhead, ready to take back the oil that was rightfully his...
The paradrop into Angton was unprecedented. 3,000 Russian Spetznaz soldiers dropped on the unsuspecting Clamparapans, who were immediately slaughtered. A few made it away from the onslaught but they were lost in the desert, unable to find their way. The Angton High Command had no idea who was invading; no reason or warning was given. Just when a message was about to be sent to the Clamparapan High Command, the MiGs hit, destroying the entire facility, killing everyone. Out of all the attacks only 17 of the 239 defending forces survived. By the Grace of God they all found each other and formed a survivor's squad. These 17 would become legends in this new war that would engulf the entire world...

We have recieved reports that a few moments ago, the Angton oil refineries were taken over by an unknown faction. We have no details at this point, but should this oil be kept by this attacker, oil prices may hit $400 a barrel. We will keep you updated as this story developes...

Canton Rouge The instant Marc Dentonnine heard about this, he was furious as to how a new rogue nation could violate the integrity of Clamparapa. Especially with the threat of oil prices skyrocketing. Therefore, he had to support his ally to the east, but would parliament be on his side in this endeavour? Fortunately, parliament had also seen the news reports coming from Clamparapa, and were very sympathetic to their cause, especially knowing what had previously happened to Canton Rouge. And it took no time to decide that sending troops to Clamparapa was the best choice of action for Canton Rouge. Meanwhile, President Marc Dentonnine took the time to write three notes.... 'To the New Soviet Republic of Russia, Your actions against the people of Clamparapa are uncalled for and unjust. Remove all forces from Clamparapa in 24 hours or face the consequences. Marc Dentonnine President of the United Provinces of Canton Rouge' 'To Col. Saul Tigh of Clamparapa, What the New Soviet Republic of Russia has done is unacceptable. If it is alright with you, I am sending all available forces that are combat capable to Clamparapa immediately to aid with your country. May the NSRR fail in their endeavours! "We are getting reports from Clamparapa that Russian special forces have launched a suprise attack against the oil fields in the far East of the country. Details are speculative at the moment but we believe the Clamparapan Government has declared a state of emergency and has begun to mobilise its forces.
"Obviously this will have an effect on the already high oil prices, and while that may not be as much of a concern for the British Empire, who control a full third of the worlds oil fields, it could have a disasterous effect on the world economy.
"We understand from Downing Street that Prime Minister Blair has cancelled the remainder of his holiday and called a meeting of C.O.B.R.A., the government's strategic response think tank.....

"Right what do we know?" asked Blair as he took his seat.
"Well Tony" began Geoff Hoon; the Secretary of Defence, "At about 12.30 pm our time yesterday upwards of 2,000 Russian Spetznaz forces, deployed from the air, attacked the Clamparapan Oil Fields in the Far East. We believe that the Russians are intent on reclaiming land lost to Clamparapa in their war some years ago. By starting with the oil fields they seem to be looking to cripple Clamparapa and her allies by forcing up the price of oil."
"I see" replied Blair, "Gordon, what effect will this have on our economy?"
"Well, obviously we control enough oil to take care of ourselves and a few choice allies but the demand is going to shoot through the roof. Already people are panic buying petrol and stations up and down the country are having to close as they have no petrol left to sell. Our economy should be able to take the hit, but its the rest of the region that will have the problems. We should open discussions with those nations who are affected and see what we can do for them, but thats more of a thing for David to do."
"Very well. We will get David on that. Meanwhile I want our forces on high alert, particularly in Malaya and Singapore. I dont want any cheeky Russian attacked on out fields there. Any further developments you know where I will be."
Tony stood up and left the room. He headed over to his office and drafted a quick note.

The British government want you to know that in this time of hardship you can count on us to stand by your side. We will open up our oil pipelines to you should you need access, though obviously we need to retain enough to keep the Empire running.

Breaking News! "Good evening from the Hyrule News Network. As you may know, just now, the New Soviet Republic of Russia has invaded the United Naval Clamdom of Clamparapa two days ago. And already, the results of this can be seen. First, we go live to our field agent in Clamparapa. What do you have for us?" --------------------- "As you can see, elements of the Clamparapan Army have already begun moving out towards preparing to move out towards Angton to stop the Russians. Meanwhile, we're not sure of if the Clamparapans have tried contacting the Russians, but we believe that negotiations may not work, as the Russians have been hell bent on taking over Angton." --------------------- "Thank you. Meanwhile, oil prices have already jumped to $275 a barrel, after hearing reports of Russia stockpiling the oil reserves in Angton. This will certainly increase the cost of goods worldwide, not just oil. We will update you as soon as we can." Ingraslov laughed at the letter he received. He wrote some very simple words to Canton Rouge. Dear Dentonnine, We are merely reclaiming lands that used to belong to Russia. If you attack, we will destroy the oil fields and refineries in our new oblast of Magadan. Be aware that charges have already been set up and we are not afraid to destroy 25% of the world's oil. "...And recapping our top story, the WA has announced that until the issue surrounding whether or not Angton still belongs to Russia is resolved, no attempt to retake the province will be allowed. More as this developes..." Tigh turned off the TV and sat back. He wanted to take the leader of the WA and beat his head like a drum until he allowed Clamparapa to retake Angton. However, he was more civilized than that. He simply called his generals into the war-room and said, "We're going to Def Con 2, Scenario 1. We are going to war with Russia..."
Dear Marc Dentonnine I accept your offer of troops and am anxious to retake Angton. The WA can Frak their sanctions and peace talks. We need to retake the province NOW if we are to save the oil market. Already prices are up to $185 a barrel and will keep rising every day we do not get the oil back. Dear Tony Blair Thank you for the offer. Fortunately, we have oil reserves and refineries in Alaska that should keep us going for at least 3 weeks. We still need to tap into the fields of Alaska and the ones operating now will run dry in this short amount of time. What we need are troops to take back the lost oil swiftly and efficiently. Do I have your support in taking back the province, even though the WA does not approve? Highest Regards Col. Marc Dentonnine scoffed at what Dimitri wrote to him. But Marc knew very well that if he made his presence of aiding Clamparapa known, then the oil fields could potentially be destroyed. Therefore, he decided to do the one thing that would be the best: deploy them on a path that the Russians would not be able to find out. He had the plan all set out: The forces would deploy to Clamparapa via the northern plains of the uninhabited Siberian reaches. After all, New Russia did not expand that far north, and whatever the case, their scanning technology would not reach that far. Marc decided that before sending troops out, he would message Col. Tigh... "To Col. Saul Tigh, Dimitri Ingraslov has threatened to destroy the oil fields if even one soldier from our country decides to come. But he would be mad to destroy all the precious oil, and send the whole world after him. And he hated how such a mediocre officer like him had been tasked to make such a deal with a leader who would probably blow his head off. The young lieutenant made his way through the streets up to the building that the 'nice' people of the NSRR mentioned where Dimitri Ingraslov had his offices. After making his greeting to the secretary, and mentioning his purpose, she sent him onward, telling him that if he ended up dead from Dimitri, it wasn't her problem. He finally approached Dimitri's office, and nervously entered. Inside, he noticed the Russian leader writing up a note at such a pace that even the officer found it interesting. Our country, the Pacific States Coalition, also has a grudge with the nation, and would like to help out. While we cannot spare an army, our leaders have graciously offered you a large amount of financial aid to help out. Rather than risk a veteran group, the regular "Anaconda Unit" had been sent out. While not as great as the "King Cobra" or "Panther" divisions, they were remarkably better than units such as the "Asp" or "Cougar" units. While we can only hope that Archimedes wouldnt launch on us there remains a threat we must take seriously. I want options on my desk in 2 hours time. I am not however, willing to escalate this right now. Just make sure our oil is protected."

OOC: I did love that WA part Clamps, thanks  IC: Television Broadcast From Desk of Duce- Regularly scheduled broadcast interrupted - Duce Archimedes sat in front of a large television prompter in full military dress staring straight into the screen and out into every television set in Porcu. His military cap by his side Archimedes began. "Dear Porcuians, I come before you today to make clear our nation's position in this recent conflict that has bubbled up in Clamparapa. As many of you may have heard from domestic and foreign television broadcasters I have indeed readied all of Porcu's medium and long range intercontinental ballistic missiles, which are currently on standby as I speak. Do not be alarmed. Desperate times call for desperate measures and as the leader of this great nation it is my duty to ensure its protection and wellbeing. I would also like to mention to our British friends that there are indeed several ICBMs locked onto various targets in Greater Britain; however, these missiles are kept on a slightly different system and will require their own launch sequence. There is nothing you should fear. The people that should fear the might of Porcu are those who look to capitalize on recent events and drive the price of oil further up. Oil producing nations of the world will continue to pump as much oil as possible or feel the effects of an ICBM strike. This is not to say that they will be hit with nuclear weapons as most of Porcu's ICBM cache contain conventional warheads but you certainly do not want to risk it do you? With this in mind, I now call on the current belligerent nations to come to an immediate ceasefire and come to the negotiating table. There is a peaceful solution to this conflict and we must do everything we can to achieve it." - End of broadcast - Archimedes simply sat in his desk chair a bit more carefully thinking about the possible courses of action this conflict would take. The Civil War had taken a heavy toll on the military and while Archimedes had done a lot in a considerably short amount of time Porcu was no where near to being capable to fight even a small regional war... |

Paris President Dentonnine looked at the recent broadcast from Rome, and at least some relief came to him. Even though right now, it was only Canton Rouge sending forces, albeit secretly, he knew that if the Russians decided to stop producing, then Rome would respond somehow. He hoped the Russians were watching, but he knew they would laugh off words coming from a nation just recently dragging itself out of a civil war. But his real concern came from the progress of the army groups on their way to Clamparapa. As of now, they had only made it to the uninhabited lands around the Ural Mountains, and it would take a few more days to reach Clamparapa. And, his aerial units committed had only received their orders to move out, but at least they would arrive sooner than the land units. Dentonnine sighed, then went back to checking up on how things were going in the East. Everyday, oil seemed to hit a new high, and with it, higher prices for goods. And it would only be a matter of time before this ripple effect came to Europe... |

It is time Porcu takes her rightful place among the world's powers but I will set my pride aside and acknowledge that this cannot be done by my efforts alone. Clamparapa is in trouble and while Porcu and her have not been terribly open to each other I feel that it is now time to work for what's best for everyone.
I, but more importantly Porcu, need you gentlemen to assist me in coming up with a workable solution to the current situation. I would like to invite you both to Rome and unfortunately current economic developments in Porcu will not allow me to give you a glorious welcome as my predecessors did.

Duce Archimedes knew he was in a very vulnerable spot. Porcu, while no doubt much better off than several months before, was still in ruins. Huge parts of Rome as well as major surrounding cities were still in shambles, the old Senate building for example, a historic building dating all the way back to Roman times, lay in ruins. Porcu probably couldn't even deal with a direct and concentrated attack by a third world nation, the military's organization was still being fixed and coded.
Archimedes knew that he had nothing much to offer in terms of support except for massive stores of missiles, most with conventional warheads. Setting aside the legendary Porcuian pride genetics gave him like every other Porcuian he sent a message to the two leaders he could count on to help get Porcu back on her feet...

OOC: We're still waiting for Clamps, because he can't post until Rob gives feedback to what Clamps wants. Meanwhile....
IC: After Marc received the letter from Duce Archimedes, he couldn't help but laugh a little. He knew that the Porcuians were bold people who loved to thrust themselves around, but now, they actually needed to rely on his help to accomplish something. But putting matters aside, Marc took the time to send his reply back to Rome.

I, on behalf of the people of Canton Rouge, accept your offer to come to Rome to work out a solution to this problem. Hopefully, we can accomplish something before Russia or Clamparapa do something stupid and obliterate each other.

The Legendary 17 moved themselves to viewing range of the enemy. Already having changed into civies, they blended in with the crowds in the Provincial capital. Moving to the outskirts, they got on a dune and camoflouged themselves. Hours later several tanks and trucks rolled in. The trucks carried what appeared to be a total of 4 missiles. Fearing the worst, the signals officer radioed on a secure line to an outpost, which was passed down the line to the capital.
"WHAAAT?  !!!!" "That's right, Sir. What appears to be nuclear missiles are being deployed in Angton. We have not confirmed that are nukes yet, but forces are working on verification." "Is the attack force ready?" "Almost, Sir." "We will attack soon."
Dear Nations of Hyrule, We have discovered possible nuclear missiles being set up by Russia in Angton. These missiles could be used to hit any nation on this hemisphere. I cannot tell you the implications of this. We need to strike hard and fast. Highest Regards, Col. Saul Tigh |

We estimate there to be 12 such sites, each with two ICBM's in preparation for full deployment. Two of these sites are complete and we can only guess these are aimed at Clamparapan interests, though obviously it would be foolish to believe that the Russians will not aim at least some at Imperial interests." replied SecDef Hoon. "As you know sir its barely past the prototype stage. "As he wishes..." Archimedes said softly out loud when he read the response that Prime Minister Blair sent him. Porcu would eventually get back to her feet on her own and if Canton Rouge ended up assisting Porcu Duce Archimedes certainly would not forget the day that Britain turned her head the other way.
But he couldn't think of Britain and Blair all day long. There were more important things to think about, specifically President Dentonnine and a potentially historical meeting between the two European leaders. The situation in the East was growing worse by the day, no sign of let up by the Soviets kept driving the price of oil higher and higher and the relatively small nations of the Middle East certainly did not wish to anger Archimedes but while they pumped and pumped at maximum capacity the price continued to rise.
A little ceremony was prepared for the arrival of the Canton president but nothing in comparison to the welcomes of old. Standing in relatively normal clothing, according to past Duce tradition, Archimedes anxiously awaited the arrival of a person he hoped to make a friend...
