Election News
A new World Assembly Delegate has been selected for New Liberalia - it had been planned that an election would be held, but in the end only one candidate signed up, with Senorak Valley magnanimously deciding to hand the torch over to “some other unlucky person and hope they get arrested for the bodies I’ve stuffed behind the paneling”.
Julio Trigman’s term as President is coming to a close, to be replaced by a new President nominated by Prime Minister Delta Golf Sierra and approved by a 2/3 majority in the Parliament. Out of the candidates available, Delta Golf Sierra chose Julio Trigman again, and it seems likely that he will be reapproved by Parliament, with 13 Aye votes to 3 Nay votes at the time of writing.
Cabinet Updates
Palestine Free 2 has been appointed as the new Foreign Minister, replacing Northern Sushi, who resigned on policy grounds. Palestine Free 2 has chosen East Ying as his deputy. In other news, Deputy Prime Minister Nucleawasta has, after agreeing that he would be unable to fulfil his duties due to inactivity, been dismissed from office, with Prime Minister Delta Golf Sierra nominating Reformists to be his replacement after a vote in the Parliament to approve him.
Legislative Updates
In Parliament, a WWSETI Local Government Act has been passed, in order to grant WWSETI a say in their home affairs. Minor amendments have been passed to the Presentation of Bills Act and Lichentia Friendship Treaty, the latter adding a section concerning Dual Citizenship, which is a prominent feature of Liberalian-Lichentian relations. A Liberalian Volunteer Forces Act was sent back to Debating Chamber to be brought back to vote again, finally being passed. Shot down by the Parliament were a Recognition of Divinity Act, which would codify Prime Minister Kurt (not the actual prime minister)’s status as a deity with Trodenhiem as his divine antithesis; and the E-mendment Act, which sought to ban all members with the letter “e” in their username, eventually being defeated in a tie-break vote cast by Speaker Palestine Free 2. Also currently at vote are approvals of Julio Trigman as President and Reformists as DPM.
Foreign Affairs Updates
Liberalia has entered into an Open Campus program with the regions of Equilism, Paradisia and Great Britain and Ireland. Under the terms of the program, students are free to come to the universities of the participating regions in order to study. It is hoped that this will benefit academia both in Liberalia and overseas.
The government has reached an agreement with the region of New Folsom to allow Liberalians who wish to be invaders to join New Folsom, after a similar deal was reached with Lichentia for defenders. This comes, of course, after the government was forced to declare itself and the region officially neutral after a vote in Parliament. It is understood that the endorsement has been made after a request from New Folsom for the deal, under which New Folsom will welcome Liberalians who wish to join and invade as dual-citizens.
Returns to Liberalia
Several prominent figures in Liberalia have returned after absences of varying lengths. A warm welcome back goes to both Cheesyweesy and fudk you after prolonged absences, as well as TripleKo, who had stumbled into the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster with apparently no memory of who or where he was. Warm welcomes back also go to Delta Golf Sierra after a brief vacation, and Prime Minister Kurt, who had apparently been looking into French real estate on a weekend break before being informed that the Palace of Versailles was not for sale. Finally, Caldari State has promised a return to the forums within the next few weeks, leaving roleplayers everywhere hungry for things to come.
Fernetti Inducted into Hall of Fame
After initial disagreement between committee members, former Prime Minister, Guardian, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and holder-of-many-other-positions Fernetti has been voted into the Liberalian Hall of Fame. Induction is a highly prestigious event, only having been previously awarded to one other person, and nominations only take place once every six months. Congratulations go out to Fernetti, sadly no longer active in the region.
Gang Wars RP begins
A role-play based around organised crime has just begun, moderated by Prez and Laothin. Already underway are Mafia meetings, police crackdowns on drug dealing, and more besides, with the moderators taking control of various law enforcement agencies and individual players taking on roles as Mafiosi, gangs, or Mafia families.
Soccer League Updates
The Liberalian Soccer League has drawn to an exciting close, with the Delta Cowboys, the New Indie Badgers, and the East Yingonites all tied on 31 points before playoffs, and the Latagon Revolutions tied with the Soccersian Celtics for fourth place on 29 points. After three playoffs, this straightened out to the Soccersian Celtics on 30, the Latagon Revs and East Yingonites both on 32, and the Cowboys and Badgers both on 34. Playoffs were continued to a second round between the Cowboys and Badgers, with the Badgers triumphing 4 goals to 3. So, the final top three are:
1 - New Indie Badgers (37)
2 - Delta Cowboys (35)
3= - East Yingonites (32)
3= - Latagon Revolutions (32)
And Finally
The Labour Party has changed its name to the Social Democratic Party of Liberalia. When asked whether this was a cheap tactic in order to gain votes, New Indie, party leader, questioned what we were doing there and asked to see some sort of pass, before we got thrown out by hired goons. Well, not really, but it makes for a good story.
The Right Alliance has chosen Reformists as its new leader. As whatever process used has taken place behind closed doors, it’s unknown how he was chosen, but the Right Alliance has dismissed eyewitness accounts of ritual sacrifice as “hearsay and conjecture”.
Liberalians have been discussing the current instability in the global financial system, with some blaming banks, others blaming governments, and yet others blaming “stupid people”. So far, the opposing sides have agreed on the fact that there is currently instability in the global financial system, but that’s about it as far as common ground goes.
