Woolcott resigns, Government Dissolved
After only a few weeks as Prime Minister, Woolcott felt very frustrated with his attempts to get legislation introduced to get the region more unified and productive. In response to what he saw as personal attacks, he closed down the Opposition Leader's Office in the New Liberalian Parliament, as well as the Prime Minister's Question Time thread, prompting an outcry of opposition from several people, including a few members of his Liberalians For Peace (LFP) movement. After hearing all the attacks and criticism, Woolcott announced his resignation and departure from the region as a New Liberalian citizen, at the end of March:
Soon after, Deputy Prime Minister Scotchpinestan also resigned, effectively forcing the creation of an emergency government, where the New Liberalian Guardian Council assumed the role of the executive until elections could be called and completed.
Even with the depature of Scotchpinestan and Woolcott, controversy emerged. It was revealed that while wishing people well, they also were recruiting people to come to Woolcott's new region, Libertia. This prompted more angry responses. With the drama seeming to plunge the region into chaos with insults and flames going back and forth, Latagon, Aleksandr Lukashenko, Nivogal, New Corsimenia, and other individuals posted pleas for unity, an end to conflict, and getting back to re-establishing a new democratically-elected government.
Elections and New Cabinet
After people settled down from the inflamed tension that had occurred in early April, the region went back to business as usual with the task of re-establishing the government and ending the emergency period. The latest Prime Minister election in New Liberalia was held from April 10th to April 12th, with the candidates for Prime Minster and Deputy Prime Minister, respectively, initially were:
- Latagon/New Corsimenia (Independent)
- Palestine Free 2 / Delta Golf Sierra (Labour Party/Right Alliance)
- Laothin/Nivogal (Independent).
Laothin's ticket withdrew their candidacy before the voting period began and pledged their support to Latagon's ticket. With two groups running, the independent ticket of Latagon and New Corsimenia lost by only one single vote, to Palestine Free 2 and Delta Golf Sierra, 10-9. It was a well campaigned election, and congratulations to PF2 and DGS!
As Palestine Free 2 was elected Prime Minister, PF2 had to resign from his seat as Guardian Council (GC) member, according to the laws of the GC. The Election Commissioner, Random Text Inputs, organized a quick election for someone to replace PF2 as GC member. The following Liberalians ran for election: Prime Minister Kurt, Hammer, Nivogal, Four Hectares and Senita. Between April 18 and 20, the Liberalians could vote for their favourite, and the Election Monitor could present the following results:
- Four Hectares, 4 votes
- Prime Minister Kurt, 3 votes
- Hammer, 3 votes
- Nivogal, 1 vote
- Senita, 1 vote
Liberalia congratulates Four Hectares with his new task as member of the Guardian Council .
After winning the election, PF2 made a bipartisan cabinet composed of the following:
Prime Minister: Palestine Free 2
Deputy Prime Minister: Delta Golf Sierra
Minister of Defence: Hammer
Intelligence Officer: New Corsimenia
Regional Security Officer: Prez
Minister of Foreign Affairs: Northern Sushi
Junior Minister of Foreign Affairs for Internal Foreign Relations and Voluntary Incorporation: New Corsimenia
Junior Minister of Foreign Affairs for Update Authorship and Internationalization: Senita
Junior Minister of Foreign Affairs for External Foreign Relations: Nivogal
Minister of Recruitment and New Citizens: Delta Golf Sierra
Minister of Justice: Curiastan
Minister of Internal Affairs: Fernetti
Good luck to the new cabinet in moving New Liberalia forward!
Thanks to Nivogal and Senita for their work to the update!
