>Cabinet Positions Changed
Since the last update, some of the Cabinet positions have been changed around, and we wish to publish the following changes.
New DPP: Cheesyweesy
New Deputy Prime Minister: Prime Minister Kurt
New Defence Minister: Abbassia
New Governmental Legislation Minister: Carops
New Speaker: Delta Golf Sierra
>Old Liberalians Return
Some of Liberalia's older residents have returned to the fold, including Carops, Ardalia, and Haelhan, having left due to inactivity and protest at the previous administration. It means that a lot of what was written in the last update is now factually incorrect, but this is why we publish new ones.
>Speaker Troubles
Shortly after receiving the job of Speaker, Golgora turned it down, saying that the fact that the Speaker does not get a vote and thus representation in Parliament would mean that his party would have an even smaller voice in the region than they do now. After several other figures turned the job down, showing how unpopular the post is, it was finally accepted by Delta Golf Sierra, although on condition that legislation would go forward stating that the Speaker would get the chance to vote. However, his open bias in debates has led some to claim that it is bringing the neutrality of the post into question, and one amendment to the Rules of Parliamentary Procedure has been proposed banning outright the ability of the Speaker to debate legislation, making the job even more unpopular than it is now.
>Recent Legislation
Parliament is booming lately, due to the concerted efforts of some of our members in submitting legislation. In the past fortnight, citizens have submitted legislation on the environment, taxation, hunting, gun control (leading to the longest debate in Liberalian history), regional fitness, public transport, workers' rights, and the prohibition of spying in other regions without governmental consent. We commend the efforts of all of our citizens in this area, although it does make updating the scrolling banners outside Parliament rather hard tongue.gif
>Liberalian News Service Gets Revamp
Trying to bring the media of Liberalia up to date, not one but two, count them, two new media outlets have been set up. The first is the new version of the LNS News, which will be updated regularly. We hope. The second comes after the success of satirical newspaper "The Weekly Rag", and is a humorous look on the region's events, which can be found here.
>Guardian Council Elections
Guardian Council elections have recently taken place, although not advertised as much as elections in the past have been. Congratulations to Forthampton and Fernetti on their re-election as temporary guardians, and thanks also to Nucleawasta and Prime Minister Kurt for giving us an interesting run-off election for everybody who forgot to vote the first time.
>Miscellaneous Happenings
A couple of new discussions have been popping up recently, although none of them quotable. RP looks to be coming along nicely, with a new updated map courtesy of Forthampton, and some things have been posted that could probably become interesting given time and effort - the most promising one is a thread entitled "Enormous RP Coming". Recruitment has been on the up lately, with regional population expanding slightly as a result. The University has been upgraded, with a new improved faculty installed. It is hoped that they will actually deliver regular lectures, instead of just lying around the place getting free board like the previous faculty. A debate on Intelligent Design is taking place, with a multiple-thousand-word-long rebuttal submitted by Curiaistan, with subsequent rebuttals of the rebuttal adding many more words to the count, making for a great insomnia cure. More rebuttals are being written as I write, and it is widely expected to become a regional pastime, or at the very least last for a few months before the nigh-endless supply of rebuttals tapers off. And, finally, the mind of the Foreign Minister has blanked while trying to think of more things to write.
