THE RSN TIMES - Red Sox Nation’s first and only independent newspaper.
Issue 3 - 7/10/2006
VP DISMISSED
-By My Urinary Tract
After a brief return to RSN last week the Vice President, The Western Mountain, has not been seen again. His brief return did, however, upset the process of the Emergency Act. As the week drew to a close, impeachment began to look like the only appropriate option.
Yesterday the Internal Affairs Minister began a vote of the General Assembly to impeach The Western Mountain. The vote was cut short by the arrival of the President (The Southern Acre) who formally dismissed The Western Mountain from the position of Vice President. Thus far no one has opposed the dismissal. It is expected that An interim election for the position will begin next week. In the mean time all Vice Presidential responsibilities will pass to the President
UNIFICATION OF THE REALM ACT MAY STAND
-By My Urinary Tract
It is looking increasingly likely that the repeal of the Unification of the Realm act may fail. The repeal of the act, which has been criticised as undemocratic, currently stands at 1 in favour, 5 against; despite the majority of the Regional Council being in favour of it. If the repeal passes this will be a landmark in RSN politics, one of the first times in which the General Assembly successfully opposed the Regional Council. This could be a sign of a swing away from the RC, as the GA shows that it has the real power. However, if the repeal fails it does seem likely that the President may simply veto the Act anyway. This will beg the question: can the GA muster the necessary 66% majority necessary to overturn the veto?
HIGH JUSTICE ELECTION BEGINS
-By My Urinary Tract
Nominations for the position of High Justice have begun. It seems likely that the current Justice, yisroell, will win the position for another three month term, but there is likely opposition in the form of Teredona. Deisel 10 has also been nominated for the position. Public acceptances of nominations start on the 10th at 8pm GMT.
INTERNAL IMMIGRATION SUPERVISOR RECOMMENDED
-By Georgdem
This week a non-Regional Council role for an Internal Immigration Supervisor has been proposed in the General Assembly by Winstonopia. The task of this supervisor would be to keep nations in the region after they have been successfully recruited. This task is currently given to the vice-president, but after the recent absence of our current vice-president (The Western Mountain), there have been calls to reduce the burden of work given to him. There have been many suggestions of how to keep both new and old nations in the region, the most common being sending a welcoming telegram to new nations informing them of many of the region's features. Some of these features are the forum (www.redsoxnation.tk) and the regional map, which is run by Georgdem. It has been proposed that these features are promoted by the IIS to ensure high activity levels and to keep members in the region. A member of the Immigration Office has been quoted as saying, “Its no use me recruiting unless we keep the nations. I do not want to waste my time!” This suggests the Immigration Office wants to make the most effective use of its time. There have been many discussions about how/who should appoint this supervisor. Some say that it should be an elected position, while others say it should be appointed by either the Immigration Officer or President. The strongest argument is probably that for appointment, solely for the reason inactivity can be stopped by a simple sacking! This should be an interesting one in the polling booths…
MY URINARY TRACT LEAVES THE RED SOX REPORT
-By My Urinary Tract
My Urinary Tract, editor of the Times and WANKA, has quit the Red Sox Report. He has made clear that this is because he believes Winstonopia’s editing is incompetent. He had written the ‘Red-Itorial’ for the paper. The position has been filled by the tandem of Deisel 10 and Teredona.
CHANGES TO THE CONSTITUTION PROPOSED
-By My Urinary Tract
Physics Part II has proposed a new amendment to the Constitution. It involves forcing all legislation to gain five General Assembly endorsements to proceed to a vote, rather than just Constitutional Amendments. There has been some opposition on the basis that this could hold up the legislative process. His proposition can be seen here: z14.invisionfree.com/The_Red_Sox_Na...?showtopic=1119
Another idea currently being discussed in the GA is extending government terms from two to three months. This could also mean an alteration to the term of the High Justice, which is currently three months. There has already been some opposition voiced, most notably from My Urinary Tract.
REGIONAL MOTTO VOTE
-By My Urinary Tract
Voting on what will become Red Sox Nation’s Regional motto has reached its second round. Currently ‘Sic siempre Yankees! - Death to the Yankees!’ is in the lead with 7 votes. Its nearest contender is ‘'Melior quam res madidus' - 'Better than being drunk'‘ with three votes.

UPSET ABOUT IMMIGRATION
Sir: I was appalled and disgusted by your claims that the region is being cemented together, and generally prospering, as outlined in the Times' last issue, editorial section.
I for one am amazed the region is still together at all, let alone that it is cemented together, close, happy, or any of the other despicable comments you made.
Furthermore, I would like to know why the Times, being what I assumed to be a generally conservative newspaper, has made no mention of the large number of immigrants arriving in RSN daily. The number of nations in RSN is spiralling out of control, and I for one will die before I see dirty foreigners and so-called 'new nations' stealing our jobs, women, culture and indeed general way of life. It is nothing short of an outrage and I am surprised that the Times, usually a reliable and forthright newspaper, has not made more of a comment.
Yours in rage and revulsion, A. Knobb
-Well Mr Knobb, at the Times we do our best to promote a variety of views and opinions, so we will respond to yours. Firstly I would like to say that at the current time, RSN is getting on very well. We have observed no difficulties in interactions between new arrivals and more experienced members of the region. In fact we have only seen a polite regard for the feelings of each other and general cooperation. Secondly, the only way RSN can become more powerful is to grow, Mr Knobb, and we really do doubt a patriot like yourself would like to see Red Sox Nation sink into irrelevance like other such great regions as Sparrow.

EDITORIAL
As you can see above, much is going on in Red Sox Nation at the moment. I however won’t be telling you what you already know. I wish to focus on something altogether different. As said above, it has been suggested on the forum that government terms be increased from two to three months. To this I say bollocks. This is an absurd case of the Regional Council simply attempting to maintain their positions of power for longer. They claim that they will be able to do more in three months than in two; to this I suggest they work a bit harder in the two months they have. You see, that’s what it all really comes down to; the RC creating more opportunities for laziness. Winstonopia happily complains about Carcino Rebels and The Western Mountain not being about, while failing to do anything much in Foreign Affairs. The Southern Acre is little better, he does things as and when he pleases, rather than just getting on with them when they need doing.
Essentially it comes down to this. Three month terms will mean even less gets done that it does now, not more.
