Emperor Tojo entered the Black House and was directed into the Green Room. On his way there he encountered a man he knew was De Gaulle's son and tried not to speak with him, but he was drawn into conversation. De Gaulle came up to him and discussed the politics on the declining French Republic, and how De Gaulle's father was not well liked in StargateSG-1. Once that was over he entered the Green Room, to meet this new leader...

Black House
President Jefferson Davis of the Southern States of America was locked in a friendly discussion with the Grand Moff of Canton Rouge when the black walnut door of the Green Room swung open to reveal a pair of very welcome, if somewhat tardy guests; the Emperor Tojo of Stargates SG-1 and President Marcus Theafer of Clamparapa. Flanked by a pair of NSA staffers (with Lafayette de Gaulle being one of them), the two men were graciously led into the marvelously furnished interior of the recently constructed Green Room where they were shown their respected seats.
"Ah, President Theafer and Emperor Tojo," greeted Davis, shaking both of the leaders hands as they entered into the room, "it is a pleasure to meet the both of you here in Atlanta, and I am very glad you managed to get here without any major problems."
Pacing around the moderately large conference room, Davis paused to breathe in the importance of this historical meeting in the Confederate Capitol Building, smiling brightly as he glanced over the beautiful green room's marvelous interior. A classic example of Antabellum architecture, the inside of the Green Room possessed an elegently constructed pine floor with several bear rugs decorating the heavily polished wood. A massive Confederate flag adorned the mantle situated over the fireplace, with several 19th century rifles hanging from the wall in a crossed position.
"President Theafer," quipped Davis, motioning to the Clamparapan, "I believe you know my NSA head; 'Jack' Lafayette de Gaulle? His father was the leader of the now-quiet French Confederation, and young Lafayette defected to us during our brief conflict with Robengrad some time ago.."
Looking at the tall man, Davis slowly ran his eyes over the Frenchman's slender appearance, attempting to remember the picture of Charles de Gaulle he had seen before in a history book. After a while, the Southerner appeared to give up on the struggle with his memory, turning his mind on more important pursuits.
"Many a Frenchman has flowed into the S.S.A. after our succession from the United States of America..." muttered Davis, "But that in itself is another topic entirely. We must look to the future, not the past, to better the quality of life for our citizens.."
"I again reiterate the S.S.A.'s official declaration of total independence from the U.S.A.," continued Davis, pacing around the floor, "and announce our intentions to develop good ties with the other nations of this world. We have an exceptionally capable military arm here in the Americas, and we intend to use it in ridding the Gulf of Mexico and Carribean sea of the various pirate scum that infest those areas.."
"Trade ties are of the utmost important to us at the moment," added Davis, "though we would like to cooperate alongside our European and Asian comrades in matters of political, social, and military importance."

Grand Moff Matthews listened intently to President Davis' speech, then was the first to comment by saying, "We understand your need for trade, for you see, Canton Rouge is always looking for a good trade partner. Now, you said you have the largest agricultural sector in the world. This shows that you can leverage trade with any nation of your choice. We in the Canton can easily get by with the crops we grow, but unfortunately, we cannot grow exotic ones like sugarcane, indigo, etc. because of the limited land space we have. Even with our reclaimation projects in the North Sea, it may not be enough."
"But we have something you could truly use," he continued. "As some of you may know, Canton Rouge proudly has one of the world's largest arms manufacturing plants in the world. In fact, three of the top firms do business here in our nation. In addition, we have just recently discovered some deposits of iron over in the western portion of our nation. Perhaps we could work something out."
"Your talk of ridding piracy in the Gulf interests me," the Grand Moff said, not showing any sign of letting up. "We could offer the use of a few of our soldiers to help out, but not a whole lot, as we must be able to defend the frontier should any invasion arise, which is highly unlikely, considering our strong neighbor to the east that we are allied with."
"Finally," he commented. "This Lafayette du Galle is a person that we consider in high regard. Of course, we also hold the late Charles in respect as well, for he kept the French Confederation alive in times of peril. That is why we would like to invite Lafayette to experience some of the culture we inherited from the French. With your permission of course, President Davis." The Grand Moff ended his speech and awaited Davis' response.

"Why my dear Mr. Matthews," quipped Jefferson Davis, intrigued by this offer, "you can be sure to count on the exceptionally efficient and cheap corporate farming methods fielded within the Southern States of America to supply your needs for such crops and will even give you a minor discount on Southern Cotton should you agree to having some of your own businesses outsource labor here. Due to our use of slave labor, a practice needed to prevent the unruly blacks here from completely shattering any semblance of order in 'America', we can easily supply Canton Rouge with a steady stream of cotton, indigo, sugar cane, and base crops (corn, wheat, rice).."
Pausing to pick up a glass of iced bourbon from his desk, the Southern President took a moment to savor the fine Southern liquor before turning back to his guests to continue his small speech.
"Indeed," continued Davis, nodding respectfully at the Grand Moff, "the SSA is greatly interested in expanding its Air and Naval arm here in the Americas, and wish a contract for the building of three indigenously designed super carriers to add to our quickly growing fleet.. We as well are extremely fascinated with the possibly of strong American-Canton Rouge ties in the future, and view the tightening of bilateral ties of extreme importance between our two nations."
"Our primary aim, however, is to restore order to the pirate/brigand infested waters of the Gulf of Mexico, a task which we are confident that our armed forces will be triumphant in. From many an island in the Gulf of Mexico, with a Cuban island being one of the major ones, these brigands have been mounting attacks on various civilian ships of the Southern States of America. Clearly, the hammer of civilization must fall down on these swine; with the SSA being the direct handler of justice in these parts. Rest assured that with international support for this endeavor, the Southern Navy will swiftly deal with the problem at hand..”

Emperor Tojo spoke after President Davis sat down, "On the matter of trade StargateSG-1 has much to offer, in many industries. We are one of the leading automobile manufacturers aw well as IT and arms manufacturing along with many other different industries, but we are in need of some more foodstuffs, unlike Canton Rouge we have plenty of cotton and sugar from our territories in the Caribbean, but we are in need of grains, and some fruits and vegetables.
"As to the piracy issue, StargateSG-1 will be more than willing to lend you the power of its Navy to help crush the evil scourge, for they harm our trade through the Caribbean to Polynesians in the Pacific Ocean. Of course we will not act unless we have permission to do so first." He sat beck down and waited for a reply.

"Indeed, gentlemen," replied Jefferson Davis, smiling at the Stargates SG-1 leader, "the Southern States of America is the largest agricultural producer in the world, and will be more than willing to attend to your needs. Thanks to the excellent corporate farming methods we employ alongside our slave system, efficiency is boosted up a good 20% when compared to conventional farms, and can easily supply both Canton Rouge and Stargates SG-1 with the crop of their desire."
Glancing over to the large map of the Gulf of Mexico, Davis slowly traced his finger over a chain of islands lying in the middle of the dark blue area representing the Atlantic sea, quietly humming a tune to himself as he gathered his thoughts before making another comment.
"While we certainly thank Mr. Tojo for offer the Southern States of America the use of their Imperial Navy, I remain adamant in my belief that the Southern Armed Forces can adequately deal with these rebels without any major outside help. Rest assured though, gentlemen, the Gulf of Mexico will be cleared of any life by the end of this year; all pirates will be punished severely..."
"In response to Mr. Matthew's request for 'Jack' to visit Canton Rouge in an attempt to strengthen bilateral ties between the SSA and Canton Rouge," added Davis, turning to look at the Grand Moff, "we will gladly send Lafayette de Gaulle to foster better relations between our two nations along with a diplomatic delegate to begin the building of the first 'American' embassy in Canton Rouge. The battleship Merrimack, my government's personal flagship in the S.S. Navy, will visit Canton Rouge on a peace mission and shall represent our urge to peacefully cooperate with the other 'non-American' nations in the world."

Promagistrate Cornelius Maluginensis Uritinus sat quietly in his chair, watching the motions, body language, and facial characteristics of everyone present. Rome was in a horrible situation at the moment and as much as Cornelius hated to think that President Jefferson Davis already thought ill of the Republic he had to swallow his pride and fear.
Cornelius politely waited for all three gentlemen to finish their points before speaking himself. He attempted English as best he could, having learned nothing but Latin until the Roman Republic was re-founded, and thought that he did a decent job.
"Mister Jifferston Davis...There is no doubt you have heard about the various rebellions in the Republic and I wish to make it clear that Rome is still a strong, proud nation, able to compete in the world's economy. The Senate is very interested in beginning formal relations, exchange of embassies, trade resolutions, and the like..."
Promagistrate Uritinus ended briefly to drink some water in the glass provided to him and before he could continue President Davis had given his response to the Roman Senator...

"Naturally, my good Roman friend," quipped Davis, slightly cringing at the mispronunciation of his name (being an American), "while we will refrain from 'jumping' into an immediate strategic military alliance with the Roman Republic, due in part to your ties to our Northern counterparts, we will agree to slowly open our markets up to your nation to better suit the both of us and will even agree to an exchange of ambassadors if you wish it."
While tempted to go on a large anti-U.S. tirade in front of his guest to further elaborate the S.S.A.'s stance on President Bush's government, Jefferson Davis instead decided to leave that particularly touchy subject for his own Southern countrymen to rant on far away from the great importance of this international summit. Pausing to pour several ounces of Tennessee whiskey into his now empty glass, the Southern politican carefully examined the facial features of his Roman counterpart, swirling the amber-brown liquid in his glass with several circular movements of his left wrist.
"Of course," added Davis, glancing at the Roman, "we would prefer that you 'officially' accept the complete sovereignty of the Southern States of America as an independent nation before starting any real attempts of friendship with the ally of our traditional enemy.. The S.S.A. is the 'true' American nation, my friends, and we would prefer to be regarded as the legitimate American government in North America from this time onward..."

Grand Moff Matthews thought about how the Roman senator could admirably try and befriend the S.S.A., but then quickly thought back to how that at least with the S.S.A., he could easily have a friend in the Americas.
"President Davis, I accept your offer to allow your nation to build an embassy here inside my nation. In return, we hope you will also accept the offer for us to build an embassy here in Atlanta. Also, we would proudly welcome the Merrimack to allow the building of ties throughout the world," the Grand Moff replied.
"Your stance on slavery intrigues me," he added. "Of course, Canton Rouge once tried slavery, back in the 15th century, but it woefully backfired when the Flemish revolted. Granted, we had the arms, but they had the numbers, and we consented on giving them equal rights, if only to prevent a rift in our nation." The Grand Moff slowly sipped the provided orange juice, then continued, "Though we may not like slavery, we must agree that each nation has its own way of dealing with others."
Finally, he added, "I can definitely say that I will proudly recognize the complete sovereignty of the Southern States of America." He finished his speech, then sat back down.

"We very well know the capabilites of our slaves, Mr. Matthews," spoke Davis with a grin, understandably happy with the way talks with the Canton Rouge Grand Moff were going, "and have appropriately adapted with the times to adequately 'deal' with this group of peoples. Unlike 15th century Canton Rouge, we Southerners effectively outnumber our slaves at a healthy 5:1 ratio, and are more than able to prevent these uncivilized barbarians from toppling the order we Americans have so feverently labored for."
Pausing to catch his breath before giving his 'pro-slavery' speech to the group of international visitors, President Jefferson Davis solumnly drained his glass of whiskey in one large gulp, wincing at the "bite" the potent liquid left in his throat.
"After our succession from the United States," continued Davis, "the centuries-long racial tensions between both the blacks and whites erupted into a full-scale conflagaration when we announced our intention to restore the 'Confederacy', with the infamous race riots breaking out throughout all of our major cities. After a short and ineffective attempt at bringing anarchy to the Southern States of America, the militant blacks were eventually forcibly suppressed with the help of the Southern Defense Forces, and enslaved to prevent any further attempts by this most vicious race from toppling the will of the majority."
"Our entire agricultural system is dependent on slavery for its shockingly high efficiency rates," added Davis, shrugging indifferently at the thought of slavery, "and none of the governors of the Southern States have issued any sort of complaints regarding this most ancient economic system."

Promagistrate Uritinus cringed at the thought of returning to Rome, having only gotten a general "thumbs up" in terms of kicking off relations between the Confederacy and Rome, something that could have been done by mail.
"Mister Davis, while I am not able to give you a definitive answer in response to officially recognizing the Southern States of America I can tell you that this topic will be debated in the Senate and you shall have an answer..."
Knowing the bureaucracy of the SPQR a little bit better than Jefferson Davis, Grand Moff Matthews knew that because of the Romans historically close relationship to Robengrad it would be next to never that Davis would get an official recognition. But, things could change.
Uritinus saw Matthews looking at him from several feet away and could have probably made a good guess as to what he was thinking, but rather than doing that the Promagistrate continued.
"Rome can relate somewhat to your situation, Mister Davis. We too in the ancient days relied on slave labor to quickly and efficiently finish construction projects. Some of the world's most beautiful and legendary structures were built in this way and while we do not employ the same system in the new Roman Republic we do have our divisions of citizenship and social class. In short, the Senate and People of Rome hold no objections to your use of slaves."
Trying to find some similarity between their respective nations, Uritinus simply added on to what Jefferson Davis had already said. Soon after, the Senator felt out of place getting the sense that the other men in the room saw him as a secondary figure, one not worthy of their direct attention or dialogue. At any rate, he simply sunk further into his chair listening intently to the others...

"I must admit, Promagistrate," spoke Jefferson Davis coolly, seeing full well the intent of the Roman man's uncertain words, "that while we hold the Roman Republic in very high esteem, we cannot develop any sort of ties to a nation who does not see our right to rule here in these lands, and will refrain from any major political or economic dialogue with the SPQR until the Roman Senate gives us a definite answer."
From far away, President Jefferson Davis could easily see a group of flag-adorned American tanks rolling through the street directly in front of the enormous wrought-iron gate marking the boundaries of the Southern Capitol, accompanying the enormous "Southern Pride" parade moving through Atlanta.
"It is deeply regrettable that you would prefer to toss in your lot with our traditional enemies, Promagistrate," added Davis, "especially considering how ineffective the United States is in managing its own former territories here in the South.. To not accept our independence is to acknowledge to me that 'Dixie' is indeed still part of the United States of America; something both of us know is not true.."

Grand Moff Matthews was listening in to the heated discussion between President Davis and Promagistrate Uritinus. When Davis was done, the Grand Moff prepared his response.
"You must understand, President Davis," he began. "Rome has an immense bureaucratic system that can take a while for issues to be passed. Granted, it's the only way Rome can manage its territories, but their Senate may unfortunately, forget about this."
He continued, "I also can not see how Rome could not acknowledge the rule of the S.S.A. here. After all, there is a ruler, a capital, and loyal followers. But apparently, some people's perspective of a nation are different than others." He finished up, and prepared for a Roman and Confederate response.

OOC: Don't mind the double post.
IC: While waiting, a beeping noise came from Grand Moff Matthews' pager. He looked at it, and a hint of anger came.
"Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, President Davis," he began, but something very urgent has come up in my nation. Excuse me for one second while I attend to this." He left the Green Room, and opened up his pager. What he saw, shocked him. He quickly had to return to the conference, so he typed up his message, and then returned to the conference and sat back down, the anger gone from his face.

Uritinus had managed to remain calm and display no other emotion but happiness until that moment. The Senator's pride had been directly attacked and if the De Gaulle boy had learned something from his father it could have been that the Romans, or Porcuians during the time of Charles de Gaulle, had a sense of pride almost unrivaled in Hyrule.
"Rome manages her territories just fine, Grand Moff Matthews...", the Promagistrate retorted anger blazing in his eyes. "The Senate and People of Rome take every matter very seriously and treat it with the utmost importance. I will reiterate what I stated before...I am not in a position to declare that the SPQR will fully recognize the Southern States of America, but rest assured", Uritinus now turned his attention to Jefferson Davis, "that if recognition is needed to begin diplomatic and economic ties then I will make sure that is clearly understood by my fellow Senators. Rome is in a difficult situation as of now, gentlemen, and be certain that she will rebound but I do not appreciate the jabs made at my government's competency..."
Promagistrate Uritinus hated to raise his voice, being old was not terribly fun and the Senator had to be careful not to set himself off on another coughing fit. Romans are loyal friends and generally hot-headed, but those moments are brief and afterward there is usually a moment of apology. Question is, do the other delegates know Roman tendencies as well as Promagistrate Uritinus does?
