"The Reich?", one of the Front's members thought aloud, as a wave of murmurs filled the relatively small gathering place. Sphinx was still standing right at the door, surrounded by gunmen when the Popular Front's leader came into the room.
Jaroslav Olejnik dominated the atmosphere, drawing all eyes on him in an instant. As their leader entered the gunmen took off their wool and animal skin hats and quickly bowed before slowly dispersing around the room, away from Sphinx.
"Boris informed me that you were coming...", Jaroslav said inching closer to Sphinx. Finally, coming within the distance for a handshake to be exchanged. "What did Boris tell you about us?"
"Nothing other than where you gentlemen were located."
Jaroslav smiled. "Good ol' Boris. It's good to know you can trust people, especially during times like this...Speaking of which, follow me and we shall get down to business as I expect your contacts would like a status report by now..."
Sphinx followed the Popular Front leader into another section of the building where he could see into some of the rooms they passed as they advanced along. Gazing into some of the rooms reveled piles of weapons including automatic rifles, pistols, mines, grenades, and even anti-aircraft and anti-tank weapons. Eventually, they arrived at what Sphinx gathered was Jaroslav's office. He, himself, sat down in a chair in front of Jaroslav's desk. Before Jaroslav sat down he dismissed his guards, asking them to wait outside and informing them that his meeting would not take long.
"So tell me, Sphinx...How exactly can your nation possibly help the Popular Front fight the Romans, one of the world's premier military and economic powers?"

Rome
Tiberius waltzed out into the streets of Rome, which recently had been completely rebuilt and repaved. It was actually a resolution that was passed during his term as Consul that completely changed the way that Rome looked. Before several parts of the city had been run down and dirty, a clean up effort being long overdue. Now, an entire section of the city was closed to automobiles and only accessible by foot or bicycle. The roads were repaved using stone to model the ancient roads of Rome and the housing was completely redone, again, to model the ancient Roman architecture. Most of these houses were occupied by Senators and other wealthy noblemen and plebeians. Conveniently centered around the government area of Rome, including the Curia Hostila, otherwise known as the Senate Building, it was very easy for a man like Tiberius to be home within 10 minutes walking.
Usually Tiberius would head home after a session of the Senate, however he was craving a cappuccino and knew where the best could be found. Also included in the resolution that Tiberius spearheaded, which changed the face of Rome, was a section that extended the changes to the major business sector as well. Now, block after block of shops, cafes, jewelry stores, and department stores were enclosed in the newly modeled Rome. The stone paving along with the new buildings and other architectural changes gave the streets a look that Romans were proud of and foreigners were stunned by.
Tiberius arrived at the cafe and sat down waiting for a waiter to arrive. The manager of the cafe, seeing Tiberius' toga and specifically the purple lining of his toga instantly sent a waiter to assist Tiberius. Tiberius quickly ordered and then took out his phone, having just missed a call and wishing to see who it was. Long behold it was a fellow Senator and so Tiberius happily called back.
"Grattius? How are you, my friend? Good...good. I'm glad to hear that you are doing well. Tell me, what did you wish to talk to me about? Yes...Ah! Thank you for reminding me. I had forgotten all about that...No, I have not been home yet. I'm here at Lucio's grabbing a cappuccino before I head home. Ok...ok...Yes, I will be attending tonight's event at Cornelius Scipio's villa. Sure thing, I will see you there...Good bye."
Tiberius set his phone down on the table just as the waiter arrived with his cappuccino. While it may seem awkward for a man in a toga to carry around a cell phone, one must remember that while the Republic of Rome has gone through some significant changes that doesn't change the fact that her citizens live in the modern era.
As Tiberius slowly savored his drink he began to think about the social event taking place later that evening. While Jerec and his fellow Protoans could not know what Tiberius was thinking they did know exactly where he would be, thanks to the modern technological ability of intercepting radio signals...

The next day the man was no where to be found, and Franco was pissed. He sent orders to three men to go and find him. They found him at home, and drug him into Franco's office.
Franco Shouted at the man," Where the hell have you been? I should shoot you right now...but I am a nice, forgiving man. Do you have the information I asked for?"
The man began to cry as Franco pulled a gun out and began to load it. "No General, I could not figure it out..." Click, the clip was loaded into the gun, and the man took a big gulp before starting his reply again, "I have no idea why they are still sitting there. The last I heard though, they had just gotten a new leader to take them into battle. Please don't shoot me! Please I beg you! I beg..."
The man was then pulled out of Franco's room before he decided to pull the trigger.
"Good thing he left, I would hate to have to get a new door due to blood splatter. I should have shot that man....I should have shot him" Franco muttered to himself.
Then he turned and radioed to the Generals in the Military Base's.
"Hello Gentlemen! This is Francisco Franco, begin the assault immediately. Make sure the forces preparing for the Flank to the west arrive a bit later than the forces that will meet head on. Oh, one more thing, don't mess up!!!" Franco stated in a stern, deep voice.
The men at the base launched into immediate action. They ran from their seat and shouted to all of the men they could. Within an hour, there were two battalions consitiong of 150,000 men marching toward the Romans. They hoped that everything would go well, as not only did others lives depend on it, but their did too. Franco was not too fond of mistakes.

Northern Hispania
Consul Cicero stepped out from the train which had brought him to the outskirts of the Legionary Headquarters. The military base, as that was what the headquarters essentially was, contained one full Legion or 100,000 men. An informal greeting had been arranged by the base commanders, all of which were now outranked by the Consul. Cicero stepped out from the train to see a line of Legionaries in front of him, perfectly still and as a command was given the Legionaries snapped a sharp salute. Cicero hoped the rest of the Legion was as well trained and prepared as this small group was. Certainly, a Consul did not have much to worry about as the Roman training grounds took basic training very seriously, able to churn out soldiers that few others could compete with.
The drive to the headquarters took less than expected, which was good considering that on the horizon Nationalist forces loyal to Francisco Franco could be seen advancing toward the base. Once inside, Cicero gave the command to prepare the defenses while being given a detailed description of the enemy's strength.
"Their lack of armor and artillery will play to our advantage. They seem to be relying solely on manpower...", Cicero thought to himself as he called one of the subordinate commanders. "Commander, instruct your units to remain within the walls of the base. How many entrances are there?"
"Five, Sir."
"Evenly distribute tanks to the entrances while keeping 5 in reserve. Same with the men, but keep 10 cohorts back. Spread the word that we stay on the defense and that shields are to be distributed."
"Yes, Sir!"
Another major reform for the military the Senate passed was one that expanded the clothing and protective armament of the soldiers. With the reforms, a shield was available to the soldiers, looking exactly like the shields the Romans used centuries ago. The difference is that the shields now are completely bullet proof, very light, and not very cumbersome. These shields are ideal for a defensive battle, allowing a soldier to hide behind the shield and not worry about being hit, but also (due to its light weight) allow a soldier to quickly expose himself to shoot back before taking cover behind the shield again.
So now Cicero would stand back and wait for the onslaught. For if Franco wanted all of Spain badly enough, like Cicero believed, he would have to fight for it and Rome was ready for that fight...

Francisco Franco was sitting in the dinning hall at his own table, eating offf of a platter full of fresh fruit when a slip of paper was given to him after feeling a sharp "tap" on his shoulder. It read like this:
Dear Franco, we can see the enemy, they contain much more armour than our units.I am requesting for backup immediatly. I do now want a slaoghter to occer. I reapeat, armour, artillery, tanks, apc's or anything will be greatly appreciated. Victory is in sight General!
Franco rippeed the note into pieces and laughed. He turned to the assistant and shouted out orders.
"We lack armour they say! Well too bad, we outnumber them by 200,000 soldiers. I dont care if all of them die! Fetch me my uniform, I shall lead them to battle myself! Also, start a draft for all men ages 18-50. Should more legions be coming, I want to have reserves that will know what the hell they are doing in this god forsaken war."
Within 10 Minutes the man was dressed and in a car on his way to the front lines. He would not have a tank, but a regular car. They had not been able to recover the war factories that constructed all of the weaponry yet, and so they were not abk to make armour of their own. Franco, outnumbeing the Legionarries by 200 thousand men, and having a great tactical mind was ready for his next challenge. He just hoped that all would go well.

Sphinx smiled, despite himself.
"Jaroslav, I suppose you have read the history of the Roman Empire from a long time ago. The Romans were first destroyed by Nomadic Tribes. The Romans were destroyed within. As the Reich will help you with that mission. We will help you destroy them from the inside. As a they say of the physics of the egg: It is strong from the outside, but is weakened internally."

Northeastern Spain/Catalonia, Military Base 12:00General Francisco Franco had reached his men an hour ago, and began to march them into battle. He had two legions of men, formed in a similar way the romans had already organized the soldiers, but these had 150 thousand men, instead of 100. The Romans were outnumbered 3-1, but had a strong defensive position, as well as some artillery and tanks. The Spanish Military was eager for blood, marching happily, feeling success coming to them. The Romans were awaiting the conflict from within safe walls. They had entrenched themselves in preparation for the onslaught by the Spaniards. They knew what was coming, as they had been watching the men march toward them for an hour or so from the top of their mountainous position. They knew they were outnumbered, but had a slight advantage-tanks and a defensive position. "Hey, General Zavala, tell all of the men to hold an all out attack from the flank! I know they will be shot to hell, but I don't care. once they begin, wait ten minutes and I will have us do the same" And with that the radio transmission to the flanking soldiers was sent, and they had their orders. About another 100 yards or so and both legions would be under artillery fire. They just had to hope that they could get up close and personal. If that could be achieved, it would be like termites infesting an old log. The Romans would be outnumbered, and defeated. The march began, and soon the thundering would be heard overhead of the men as they attempt to reach the top of the mountain, and victory. The men began their march....

Jaroslav smiled. Yes, it was true that centuries ago the Roman Empire collapsed due to the infiltration of barbarians into its borders, but this was a little different. Firstly, the Roman legions in the ancient days were partly composed of people from the barbarian hordes. In order to gain their favor the Empire allowed masses of them to occupy Roman land, settling on it and starting, in essence, their own nations.
"What you say is true, Sphinx; however, the Romans ruling today have learned from their mistakes, for the most part, and so it will not be as simple as rotting them from within. Besides, there are no huge barbaric hordes to deal with either. The Popular Front is strong, but it is also small and while we have strong support from the laypeople that support may dwindle..."
"Exactly why you should turn to the Reich. We can supply you with anything you need. I wish to make it clear that the Reich wishes for a new Dacia to rise and take back her sovereignty. You have everything to gain..."
Jaroslav sat back in his chair and pondered over what Sphinx had said. It all was true, but Jaroslav had seen his nation welcome the assistance of outsiders and that eventually lead to Dacia being absorbed into the Republic of Rome. However, the Popular Front needed a strong back to support its actions and he knew that Protoa and the CPA provided exactly that.
"Very well...", Jaroslav said rising from his seat, but not shaking his new-found allies' hand. Jaroslav then thanked Sphinx for his efforts on behalf of his government and had his guards escort Sphinx from the compound.
Within five minutes, Sphinx found himself once again out in the cold, freezing streets of Aedeba ===================================== Northern Hispania
"Consul, Franco's forces are within range of our artillery. At their current pace we should make contact by the end of the hour..."
"Very well, Commander...Order the artillery to commence firing and make sure every solider has a shield."
The Secondary Legionary Commander saluted his superior before exiting the room and sending the orders. Within a few seconds Cicero could hear and then see the effects of the artillery on the thousands of soldiers below. The highly trained and well prepared Legions of Rome now faced a battle that they had to win, as there was no escape route and the possibility of reinforcements was slim.
Thunderous explosions could be heard within the base as the artillery pieces smashed into the columns of men below. Cicero, as well as the other Legionary commanders, knew that the ascent for Franco's troops would be the time when the battle could be decided. The continuous roar of the cannons and rocket artillery was almost deafening, drowning out all other noise and forcing men to communicate by hand motions and commands.
The might of Rome was just beginning to be felt by Franco and his forces as they made their way up the side of the mountain, many believing to their death...

Catalonia Spain, Military BaseThe soldiers led by Franco were being hammered by the deafening blows of the artillery. The only thing that would stop it was to reach the top. Many of the men began to slow their pace, feeling fatigued from the escalation of the mountain. The thing that would save them, was something that no one had thought of, but played right into General Franco's hands. A heavy fog quickly loomed over the peaks of the mountains. The fog allowed for the remaining 175 thousand men to begin n advance under cover, and without any accurate artillery fire. Many mens spirits were lifted, as they praised god for his blessing. The Visibility with the fog was minimal..."Men, Advance your march!! Do not stop or slow down, we have a victory to achieve! Remember that we outnumber them, and that we are fighting for Freedom!!" General Franco said to his men. The men screamed in unison, "FREEDOMMMMM!!" as loud as they could, and then screamed while running up the mountain. The yells would easily be heard by the Romans. The deep, satanic screams put a melancholic feeling in the air, and would surely ruin the morale of the defense. The men finally reached the top. The fog was so thick that the movements of the Spaniards was limited to none. It became a man on man slaughterhouse inside of the concrete walls. Machine guns blaring, bullets bouncing off of shields, men screaming everywhere as they die. The 175 thousand man army had reached the top of the mountain, but were tired and unorganized. Their numbers and cause would have to prevail, as it seems nothing else was given to them from god... ========================================= Madrid SpainThe people within Madrid were now split between the two factions. There was a Republican Party led by Manual Azana, and the Nationalist Forces, led by Francisco Franco. Manuel was secretly gaining support from an underground network of people, however under the public eye Spain was completely Nationalist. Pictures and propaganda containing nationalist sayings and Francisco Franco could be seen anywhere. People were slowly realizing the instability of Spain, and possibility of eliminating Franco. A Leader of the Republican Party secretly sent this letter in order to gain support: Dear United States of Robengrad, This is a leader of the Republican party of Spain. I am writing to you to ask for aid in our revolution against Nationalist General Francisco Franco. Should you aid us, we shall surely see you rewarded for your efforts. Please help us,
Your Friends, The Republicans

As Sniper Team Alpha rode in the chopper, they recieved a message from Command. "Good job taking out Dracon. However, you're not out of fighting yet. You need to assist Spanish Ultranationalist forces as they attempt to retake Spain from Rome. Spain used to be our ally, but the Roman takeover of the nation has ceased all relations between us and that nation. Also, it will allow us to show why Porcu should have never left the CPA." The Team got on a small plane and were taken to a CSN Aircraft Carrier in the Atlantic. There they were briefed, and prepared for the halo drop into Spain. They would get only 5 hours of sleep before the jump, so they immediately went to their cabins and fell asleep, thinking about what might happen...

Attic of the Restaurante La FavoritaThe Restaurante La Favorita is a very famous restaurant within Madrid. It was an old Opera House, containing elegant service, where all of the waiters would sing Opera while serving you. In the attic, it had been transformed into a secret base of operations for the newly formed Republican Party, led by Manual Azana. He was there, drinking fine wine and eating the food, served for free to the Republican revolutionaries. They were all there, discussing politics, and awaiting an unlikely response from Robengrad. Mr. Azana was in his the attic of a bar when he received a message from Vice President Dick Cheyney, asking for more information on the aid required. He then thought out loud, in front of the rest of the Republican members sitting around the table. "If I can get them to recognize the sovereignty of Spain, then perhaps I can bring them into the war against Rome, ridding us of their hindrances. On the other hand, they may not want that...in which case, what shall I do?" A man sitting across the table quickly arose and spoke, "Mr. Azana, just ask for weapons. Then there will be no proof of them helping us. once we get weapons, we can rebel ourselves-no one knows we exist! We will take everyone by surprise!" Another man rose quickly and screamed, "NO way in hell!!! That will..." Another man interrupted, "What!? Are you kidding me. Thats a brilliant idea!" Then Mr. Azana roared out to all of the men arguing with each other, "Men, we will ask for weapons, that is the most logical way of doing things. We shall ask for small arms and ammunition. I'll get ahold of some explosives if possible too." With that, the men slowly exited the attic, one by one so as not to be noticed by any outsiders. they wrote the letter asking for what they discussed, and hoped for a quick reply. They did not know what to expect, but they knew their future rested upon the successful delivery of two letters... The decor of the attic of the Restaurante La Favorita...

The sniper team landed just outside the battle and took up positions just to the south on a mountain top. Sniper Alpha started to open fire on the Romans, picking them off one by one. He hit machine gun nests and enemy snipers first, cutting holes in the enemies line. However, the Romans were just as quick to send reinforcements to the small openings he made. If the Spaniards didn't exploit these openings quickly, there would be no need for his uses...

The Mountain Top in Catalonia Spain
The Spanish forces were being quickly shot down by the defendig Romans. The thing that made the fight even once again was the sudden arrival of a sniper team from a foriegn country. These snipers aided in taking out the strong points in the defense. The only problem was that there was a lot of hand to hand combat, and the lght sheilds and equipment of the Romans proved to be top notch, an the Spaniards could not compete. They were still looking at a victory arriving soon due to their number advantage, but the Romans still had time for something in order to make a comeback....

Sphinx stood out in the cold street, looking at the sky as a chilly rain began. He then sent a message to Lucian:
"Jaroslav of the Popular Front is accepting. Send support. Sphinx out." ============================================== Rome Jerec and the other members of the special operations met in a popular Roman pub. The mission was ready, they only needed to perform their duty for the Reich and go home. Jerec then addressed his men. "Our calling card is DarkForce. I am DF1. We will proceed soon. Also, our other men in Spain will soon provide cover for the Spanish people to liberate them. Ok, let's go."

Northern Hispania
"Hold the line! Think of your fellow soldier beside you!", shouted one of the front line Legionary commanders. "These Spaniards are weak and we are Romans! Show these men what it means to feel the might of Rome!"
Words alone could obviously not win the battle, but in terms of boosting the moral of the legionaries it did help considerably. The battle was far from over and a winner was even further from being decided, neither side having a considerable advantage over the other. Franco's forces, while large compared to that of Cicero, were forced into small spaces and niches, seriously diluting the strength of numbers that Franco was relying on. On the other hand, Cicero did not have thousands of soldiers to spend and so needed his men to hold back the onslaughts.
Cicero himself was careful to avoid staying in any open area for long, especially when word of a top-notch sniper team made its way around the battlefield. While the Consul carried his own shield and knife, seeing as the battle called for hand-to-hand at this point, he did not routinely seek out a battle. However, as he was making his way around the base, checking on the progress of battle in the different areas, Cicero was informed that a section of the defense had started to become thin. It wasn't an immediate danger, but one that certainly called for some reinforcements. When Cicero arrived, flanked on either side by several guards, he looked to boost the morale of the troops by fighting side by side with them.
Looking to further boost the morale of the troops, Cicero ordered that the Roman battle cry sound. It took some time to get started and spread around to all the other sections, but one could only guess how intimidating it was to the soldiers on the other side of the walls, men who had not even seen battle yet...
