It has been announced today that President Marc Dentonine has set off to Richmond in order to negotiate the JAUST treaty with the C.S.A. It is widely considered as the first of many steps that will mark how well the president will handle his foreign policy towards the world, but rest assured, whatever happens, will greatly influence democracy here in Canton Rouge. Before the president left, he had this to say:
"I do hope we can work something out with the Confederate States of America. After all, we are in the need for new alliances now that we are no longer a part of the Protoan Empire."
Over the Atlantic...
As Marc's plane soared high above the Atlantic en route to Richmond, only one thing went through his mind. What the C.S.A. had in stock for negotiating the JAUST treaty. He knew that they could be hard bargainers when it came to treaties, but he only hoped for the best. At least he knew that the president of the C.S.A. could relate to him only because they were both democratic leaders.
Marc Dentonine sighed and pulled out a handbook showing a simple guide to the C.S.A. After all, he at least wanted to show respect to their culture and not offend them in anyway. Looking over the proper way of greeting one another, he tried it out with himself. After believing he had it down, he returned to his seat, knowing that in a couple of hours, the plane would be in Richmond...

Washington D.C. Columbia International
President James T. Derroit, the newly elected President of the Confederate States of America and direct successor to former President Jefferson S. Davis, stood solumnly on a small platform positioned on the runway of the recently constructed Columbia International Airport, flanked with a small honor guard of gray-clad American soldiers bearing the respective flags of Virginia, Columbia, and the "Stars and Bars" of the Confederacy. Having been elected just eight days ago during the latest American election, Derroit was eager to prove his worth to the American people by successfully negotiating the JAUST (Joint Arms for Unity, Sanctity, and Trust) treaty with the latest addition to the democratic world: Canton Rouge. Unlike his predecessor (the relatively isolationist Davis), Derroit was eager to test the power and resolve of the JAUST alliance in the face of the rising power of "rogue nations" (New France, the Ottoman Caliphate). Canton Rouge, despite their relative "youthfulness" as a democratic nation, would undoubtedly become a vital factor in the latest charter aimed at maintaining peace and harmony throughout the world, and was most definitely a worthwhile subject of the new president's first foreign policy decision.
He would not be disappointed, as within a matter of minutes, the aircraft carrying the Canton Rouge Representative's person touched down on CI's runway, eventually slowing to a halt several yards in front of President Derroit...

Washington D.C. Columbia International, Runway 23
After the plane carrying Marc Dentonine stopped, the stairway rolled up to the door, and Marc stepped outside. Immediately, he was overcome by the humidity of Virginia, but he faked being fine in order to please James T. Derroit. As soon as he saw him, Marc immediately walked over, and shook the mans hand, keeping a hint of a smile on himself so as to please the newly elected leader of the C.S.A.
"Ahhh, if it isn't James T. Derroit. Such an honor to meet a man as yourself," Marc Dentonine began. "I do trust you enjoy yourself as the new leader as I do myself. If there's nothing else you wish to discuss, perhaps we should get down to business then." Marc showed the upmost honor he could, having come from a family of well known French politicans who at least respected the Belgians from Canton Rouge.
Inside Marc's mind, he thought about how respected President Derroit must be to the people to have been elected to such a position. He continued to think it over as the two proceeded to the limosuine that would take them to the respected meeting place...

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Marc..." greeted Derroit, shaking the hand of the recently elected leader of Canton Rouge, "and I do extend my congratulations on your successful ascension to leadership within the newly democratic Canton Rouge. Rest assured, we Americans are more than overjoyed to hear of the renewal of democracy in Europe and look forward to building tighter ties with our brethern in Western Europe..."
Motioning silently to the captain of the Confederate Color Guard, President James T. Derroit gently guided his visitor through the ranks of the sharply-dressed ranks of gray-clad American soldiers, eventually stopping in front of the side door of a shiny black limosine flanked by NSA agents. Nodding towards the frontmost agent standing quietly in front of the limosine's door, the American President paused for several moments as he watched the man slowly open the entrance to the vehicle for the two world leaders, and stepped into the temperature-controlled climate of the specially-modified automobile.
"The White House isn't far, Marc..." quipped the American, flashing a salute to the assembly of Confederate soldiers still present on the airport runway, "So I assure you we will quickly 'get down to business' within a matter of minutes.. Canton Rouge's request to enter the Joint Arms for Unity Sancity and Trust (JAUST) is most definitely a subject worthy of the wagging of both our tongues, and will not be delayed by any unnecessary pomp or ceremony.."
After knocking twice on the glass divider that separated the two passengers from the limosine driver, the black limosine promptly began to accelerate through the military escort assembled at Colombia International and quickly made its way through the steel gate of the Airport without any major difficulty, Within a matter of seconds, a small contagiment of Army Humvees quickly flanked the solitary limosine in a protective convoy, accompanying the pair of men through a brief ride into the heart of American power. In stark contrast to the noisy greeting Grand Moff Matthews had recieved in Atlanta, Georgia during the Davis Administration's first attempt at reaching out towards the international community, the streets of Washington D.C. were devoid of any civilian life; testimony of the still ominous presence of American 'Martial Law' in the racially mixed city.
"Sorry about the welcome, Marc..." spoke Derroit, gazing out towards the empty streets of Washington D.C., "But ever since those damned 'darkies' decided to cause trouble several months ago during the 'Liberation', we've been forced to maintain a heavy military presence here in Columbia... For the protection of both blacks and whites, of course..."
American soldiers of General Lee's First Army could easily be seen standing guard at almost every street corner with weapons at ready, and snapped into attention almost immediately when the convoy passed. Derroit, knowing full well the importance of the Army during the race riots in New Orleans (during his term as governor) waved respectfully through the window of the limosine, nodding at the National Guardsmen from his position inside the automobile.
Several more minutes passed before the convoy finally reached the majesty of the American White House, where the stunning sight of venerable statues and Confederate flags temporarily made Derroit's foreign visitor gasp in amazement.
"Welcome to the White House, Mr. Dentonine....."

"Thank you, Mr. Derroit. I feel honoured to be here in Washington D.C.", Marc replied, as the two of them passed through a security detailmet. While they were proceeding to the designated meeting room, Marc commented, "Although our nation at a whole does not enjoy the idea of slavery, we really won't complain, as seeing that your nation is thriving. Furthermore, I never thought I would actually be seeing such a city under tight authority. Well, granted when the main Canton Rouge force moved into Paris, we had martial law. But it was only brief, and after a couple of days, freedom returned."
Continuing onward, down a hall that had the paintings of great Confederate leaders and cities, Marc commented, "Mr. Derroit, I must say your nation has great culture and honor in the sense of having numerous flags covering your cities. While we prefer to excell in the fine arts ourselves." He was mesmerized by the detail the artists had put into their work, making them look realistic.
After a couple minutes of walking, the two finally arrived and Derroit invited Marc to have a seat. When the two leaders sat down, Marc responded, "Ok, Mr. Derroit, let us get down to business, shall we? This will hopefully work out well between our nations...

The White House Oval Office
"Of course, Marc..." replied Derroit, plopping himself down on the leather seat positioned comfortably behind his mahogany work desk, "We Americans are certainly fond of frankness, and will not waste a single second of your time with unnecessary speeches or ceremonies..."
Reaching his hand into the interior of his desk, Derroit quietly fumbled about for several moments before pulling out a copy of the JAUST treaty from a laminated folder, placing it before Marc Denentoine politely with his free hand. Quickly glancing over the words of the magnamious document written and signed by his predecessor (Jefferson Davis) and the current President of Spain (Manuel Azana), James T. Derroit reverently stroked the document with the pointer finger of his hand, and gazed intently into the eyes of his foreign visitor with the two black orbs that dotted his sharp facial features.
"We both know why we are here, my friend.." quipped Derroit, yanking a pen from a black mug standing stationary on his desk, "As two civilized democracies standing proudly in this world, we are obligated to use the powers given to us for the common welfare of all of Earth's inhabitants; to keep the peace, uphold stability, and promote democracy throughout the world. JAUST, the Joint Arms for Unity Sanctity and Trust, differs greatly from past alliances in the fact that it strives not to empower its members, but to aid the less fortunate peoples in the world with the guiding light of democracy."
"JAUST is aimed at protecting world peace and promoting democratic ideals," added Derroit, stroking his small mustache thoughtfully, "and is currently a political, economic, and military treaty signed between the Confederate States of America and the Republic of Spain.. With the current situation in Indochina and the Balkans quickly escalating into likely JAUST involvement, we are open to the possibility of Canton Rouge participation into our alliance to better uphold the standards of peace and democracy in this world.."
"Within Indochina, for example, the French Confederates have just recently stolen hundreds of American intelligence secrets along with the C.S.S. Merrimack; an unforgivable reaction that will more than likely lead to all-out war against the resurgent Gaullist government in French Indochina. The Ottoman Caliphate, another 'rogue nation' is also threatening stability and peace within the Middle East with its dangerous anti-western policies.."
"As the guardians of democracy and peace, it will be JAUST's job to 'police' the world, my friend, and shall be a long a tiring journey for the three of our nations.... Despite the difficulties, I do stress the importance of a 'world police force' in this dark day and age, and strongly urge the government of Canton Rouge to join America and Spain in its campaign for democracy, stability, and peace."

It took only a second for Marc to respond, and when he did, he replied, "Of course, Mr. Derroit. I condemn what the new Gaullist government has done, especially considering that not only did Lafayette turn traitor against his nation, but also the actions of French Indochina make the French proportion of Canton Rouge look bad. So we will do whatever it takes to ensure that the situation will not deteriorate over there."
He continued, "With the Ottoman Caliphate, they not only can ignite the powder keg that is the Balkans, but they could also potentially start other situatuions all over the world. And seeing the potential they have with the nationalization of assets within their country, we don't want to know what the Ottomans could do next. And surely a power like them should not be able to overthrow stable countries and instead turn them into unstable nations that can turn rogue at any second."
"Therefore, I will safely say, and that the people of Canton Rouge have also said, we will join JAUST in order to ensure that potential threats will not have the power to take down the free world of not only democratic nations, but other nations that we know who are necessary for a better world. And regarding us as a former Central Powers Alliance member, I ensure you that we no longer associate ourselves with them. Although the word is we are with them is in name only, we really no longer support them with the exception of helping out the empire in Protoa, and our good friends the Nakarakians and the people of Clamparaba."
"So, Mr. Derroit, let us discuss the terms of JAUST. The sooner we support the region, the better we will be able to support our allies," Marc ended. He now waited patiently for President Derroit's response, knowing that as long as the discussion still remained favorable, there was a good chance everything would be fine...
