Grand Moff Matthews stared out into the sky, pondering what he was going to do. Although he still found himself 'Grand Moff', he disliked the way that the mother country, Protoa, was going. And he knew that whatever Protoa did, the blame would fall not only on Protoa, but also on Canton Rouge.
He also knew that quite lately, Protoa had not been keeping up with his nation. It had felt like Canton Rouge had to do things herself. And the Grand Moff figured that if that was the case, he might as well push for making his nation completely sovereign.
Knowing the potential consequences of doing what he was about to do, Grand Moff Matthews, took out a formal piece of stationery, a pen, and began to write a letter to Fuhrer Lucian:
To Fuhrer Lucian,
I believe the time has come for my nation to become independent from the United Reich, peacefully I prefer. While our nation has benefitted under your guidance, now, we are ready to experience everything as an independent nation. I hope you accept my reasons for this, and if you accept, may our nations prosper in the future with good ties.
Grand Moff TImothy Matthews Canton Rouge
To the rest of the world, he wrote:
To the leaders of the world,
I, Grand Moff Timothy Matthews, have decided to push for an independent Canton Rouge from the United Reich in a peaceful manner if possible. If this succeeds, I wish to announce that we will become the United Provinces of Canton Rouge, and will transition to a full democracy instead of this democratic dictatorship that exists today.

PBC News Minute
"Good day to all, I'm Luigi Barra and this is the PBC News Minute. Let's get started with the biggest stories of the day...
Sovereignty movements within the Reich-state of Canton Rouge have finally taken ground within the government, as Grand Moff Timothy Mathews released a statement earlier this morning to Protoa as well as the rest of the world. There has been no response from Fuhrer Lucian or any other member of the Protoan government at this time; however, soon after the Senate received the message sent out by the Grand Moff a response was quickly sent out. The entire statement can be read online, but major statements include ones stating that the SPQR "is proud of the steps taken by the Grand Moff, not only for his people but for the democratic world at large..." Other statements include: "...while certainly it is true that under the guiding wing of the Protoan government Canton Rouge has flourished it is equally true that it is time for the people of Canton Rouge take their rightful place among the class of civilized, independent and sovereign Europeans. The Senate and People of Rome wait to welcome Canton Rouge and hope that a quick and peaceful transition is possible..."
Again this was the PBC News Minute, bringing you the latest stories making news in Italy, around the Republic, and around the globe...Until next time, this is Luigi Barra...Please have a safe day."

To the Leaders of The United Provinces of Canton Rouge,
Spain recognizes and supports The United Provinces of Canton Rouge as a democratic state, and will stay by your side should any future conflicts arise. As another democratic nation, we wish you the best of luck in your actions of becoming free. Our leader, Manuel Azana would like to speak with your new democratic leader as soon as one is decided and has the time to speak.
Best of Luck, The Government of Spain
Manuel Azana was too busy with the JAUST Treaty to personally reply to the letter, so his advisors colloborated and created a response. They informed Azana about what had happened, and Azana was exstatic. They could only hope that things would go well for everyone.

News Update from Canton Rouge
Already, multiple political parties have returned or been recreated following the decision for the country to return to democracy. Although there are many parties, the three that will have serious contention for the presidential position are: The Social Democrats, The Green Coalition, and The Christian/Catholic Alliance. If approved, elections could very well happen soon.
There is no word yet on whether current Grand Moff Timothy Matthews will participate as one of the canidates for the parties, or if he will even continue in politics after the elections occur. Until then, this is CRIN, reporting live on the government transition.
Paris
Citizens were already beginning to put up slogans, banners, etc. showing their support for the political party they prefered. While the wealthy were leaning towards the Social Democrats, the middle opted for the Christian/Catholic Alliance, and the lower class supported the Green Coalition. They were anxiously awaiting for the day to finally cast their ballots....
Meanwhile, Grand Moff Matthews was busy planning whether to continue in his political adventures after this transition, when he got the letter from the Spanish government. After looking it over, he wrote his response:
To the Spanish Government,
We thank you for your support in our movement for democracy. And we accept your invitation to meet with the newly formed government, after the elections have occured.
Regards, Government of Canton Rouge
After he sent out his letter, the Grand Moff finally had his mind set up. Reaching out to his broadcasting radio, he announced,
"People of Canton Rouge, and of the world. I wish to say that I will not sign myself as a presidential canidate for the upcoming elections. Instead, I seek to run for a position in the Parliament. I trust that all who come out to vote will gladly do so, and bring in a new age for our nation! Vive Canton Rouge!"

To the United Provinces of Canton Rouge,
I have been pleased to guide your nation as long as I have. I formally agree to separate you from the Reich, but I ask only that you stay within the Central Powers Alliance. Much is changing in the world we live in, and hopefully we all can live peacefully.

Interim Government United Provinces
News Update
With Protoa supporting independence, elections will commence a couple of days from now. The announced positions for President are as follows:
Social-Democrats: Yohann Dejis Green Coalition: Marc Dentonine Christian/Catholic Alliance: Thomas Beaumon
Also announced today is that former Grand Moff Timothy Matthews will run as the main parliament canidate for the Social-Democrats, bringing in experience that could help the Parliament. His main challenge will be the Green Coalition's Maria Melfor, who also has the credentials. As for the presidential race, it is unknown who will be carrying in the momentum, but all three canidates are fully qualified.
This is CRIN, wishing all the canidates the best of luck. We also wish luck to our voters, who will proudly choose a new canidate to ring in a new era.

Update!
Voting has begun today throughout the United Provinces of Canton Rouge. The people here have taken this issue quite seriously, with the polls being jampacked. In order to ensure that everyone will have a fair say, voting may take place over a course of a few days. This is to the delight of both the people, and the world.
To symbolize the importance of these elections, none other than former Grand Moff TImothy Matthews cast the first of many votes. He was heard to have quoted, "By ensuring that proper elections will take place here in Canton Rouge, we can ensure that the world will look upon us with great esteem and respect!"
As of right now, only 12% of the vote has been counted, with Marc Dentonine of the Green Coalition currently leading the presidential election. Close behind is Yohann Dejis of the Social-Democrats. And surprisingly, in third place is Jean Merlon of the Royalist Party, who was not expected to be doing so well.
Turning to the parliamentary elections, it is neck and neck between Matthews and Melfor. Both will be qualified canidates to fill the position of the head parliament member, but whoever gets that position will surely influence the say of the Parliament.
This is CRIN, saying if you're still watching this, get out and vote!!!!
*********************
To Jefferson Davis,
We proudly accept the JAUST treaty, bringing democratic ties closer between what little democracy exists in the world. As one of the new president's first acts, he will come out to the C.S.A. to work out the dealings. May democracy live on.

Dear government of Canton Rouge,
We hope that all elections in Canton Rouge will go as smoothly as possible, what with the recent attacks on your nation. If you need any assistance from our country, feel free to ask. We will help your country in any way possible. We recognize you as independant and broken away from the CPA, as we have recently done. We would like to establish relations with Canton Rouge if that is at all possible. Again congratulations on achieving unity and independance among your nation.
Highest Regards, General Secretary Marcus Theafer

To Emperor Tojo: Rest assured, we will still remain trading partners. We value our trade agreements with the world. - Canton Rouge To General Secretary Marcus Theafer, We will gladly accept relations with your nation. With this, we hope to continue with the ties that were establish from the CPA. - Canton Rouge News Update Almost all of the votes have been cast and counted. Now, we can safely say who has won what election. For the presidential election, Marc Dentonine of the Green Coalition has won with 35% of the vote right now. If true, he will be set to take office as soon as possible. When interviewed, he was reported to have said, "I am amazed that I was able to accomplish this. This surely will be a great day for the United Provinces of Canton Rouge, and for the world as well." In second was Yohann Dejis of the Social-Democrats with 33%. Although disappointed, he assures everyone that, "This is not the end. I seek to run for hopefully, a position within my hometown of Caen." And in third, Jean Merlon of the Royalist Party took 20% of the vote, calling it a major accomplishment. Turning to the Parliament elections, we are proud to congradulate Maria Melfor of the Green Coalition for winning a very close battle, with only .1 percentage points seperating herself and Timothy Matthews from the position. When we went to interview Matthews, here's what we got: CRIN: "So you came so close to winning, but you just missed out by only a few hundred votes. So what are you going to do now?" Matthews: "Heh. I'm thinking maybe I'll retire to a nice beach out in Spain. Or maybe Italy. Write a book about my experiences as leader. I have a good amount of money to hold me over through a couple of lifetimes." CRIN: "Best of luck to you then." There you have it folks. The results of our election. We thank the world for their support, and the public for coming out to vote.

To Former Grand Moff Matthews:
I am glad to see that your country has accepted the change of power so peacefully. I have heard that you will be retiring. It's times like these when I begin to feel age creeping up on me, but I've got a few years left ahead of me. You will always be welcome to visit Nakarak or the Outlands, which are really beginning to take shape now. May you receive the peace and rest that you have earned.
