OOC - Basically deals with my "expansion" in America. RichmondVirginiaThe Union was dead.Governor Richard Heinlein, the governor of the State of Virginia, paced the floor of his excellently-furnished office in the Virginia State House, fretting over the latest turn of events to take place in the "United States of America". Over the past few months, the U.S.A. had severely declined in terms of economic and social stability, with the current Bush Administration literally driving the Union States into the ground. Massive debts owed to foreign countries, the mortgage crises, and stagnating economy forced many of the governors within America to rethink their definition of "prosperity", and enviously turned their eyes on the prosperity of their Southern counterparts. Unlike the U.S.A, the S.S.A. was thriving under the numerous reforms of President Jefferson Samuel Davis, enjoying a stable government and growing economic boom which was unrivaled anywhere else in the North American Continent. "All we have..." muttered Heinlein, spitting disdainfully at the map of the U.S.A., "Are a bunch of free niggers and an economy going into recession... How I wish for Virginia to be free again..." The epic tragedy of the "South's" lost cause during the First American Civil War in the 19th Century made the fact that the new "Confederacy" was faring far better than the Yankee North was cruelly ironic and very infectious, sending shock waves of Southern Succession throughout the states with historic and cultural ties to the "Stars and Bars". Within Virginia itself, a movement of firebrand Southern Baptist preachers led by well-known Reverend Billy Doyle called for the "removal" of the State of Virginia from the Union, blaming the Federalists for the majority of problems within the United America. Quite frankly, Heinlein agreed with the bible-thumpers, and had had his very public differences with the "Yankee" politicians dominating the policies of the U.S.A. Virginia had suffered alongside the rest of the States during the Bush Administration, and secretly resented the fact that the Northern Elite dominated American politicians in Washington D.C.. Picking up his gold-plated pen, Heinlein groped around his desk for a piece of unmarked paper, knowing full well what his next bold move could spell for the Virginian people. Furious at the incompetence of "Washington", the Virginian Governor scribbled furiously a letter imploring all the governors of "Unionist" South to rethink their loyalties to the United States of America, and their thoughts on the future of their people. Look to the South, wrote the Virginian, and break away from a soulless entity not worthy of the respect of the Southern Peoples. Fifteen of the longest minutes soon followed afterward, with the firebrand Virginian secessionist writing page after page of unbridled "treason" to his fellow governors. Once finished, the governor stared blankly at the masterpiece he had just created, attempting to understand the fullness of what he had done. Reaching for the phone, Heinlein then made a call to Congressman Timothy Shrubbs, his best friend in Virginia's State Congress. "Round up the old boys, Timmy..." mumbled Heinlein, "Succession may well enough be reality soon..." =============== Breaking NewsIn an astonishing show of defiance to Washington, the States of South Carolina, Virginia, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Arkansas have reportedly agreed to immediately succeed from the United States, declaring a period of "temporary martial law" and maintaining order with their own State National Guard units. President Jefferson S. Davis himself has announced his intention to meet with the governors of all seven freshly independent states in Atlanta, Georgia to oversee the rebirth of the "Confederate States of America". This comes as an enormous blow to the once-powerful influence of the United States of America, with six of its most crucial Southern States leaving the Union for the promise of a revived "C.S.A.", a phenomenon not seen since 1865 (more than two centuries ago). Clashes between elements of the Virginian State National Guard and "Unionist" soldiers along the Virginia-Maryland state line have reportedly taken place, with unknown amounts of military and civilian casualties be inflicted on both sides. - Tim Rogers, CNN

News ReportIt has been confirmed earlier today by President Jefferson S. Davis himself that the six states that had just succeeded from the United States of America (Mississippi, Alabama, Virginia, South Carolina, Louisiana, and Arkansas) have been officially incorporated into the Confederate States of America (C.S.A.) and are currently in the process of adjusting the central political system to accommodate the influx of new Senators and Congressmen into the Confederate Congress. Jefferson has also announced the intention of the Confederate Government to temporarily "move" their political center from Atlanta, Georgia to Richmond Virginia, and have authorized elements of the Tennesse National Guard to reinforce Virginian forces along the Virginia-Colombia border. The American Government has specifically warned any outside nations of attempting to interfere in this "cultural reunion", and informs the world that any attempt to "enter" this entirely "American Matter" will be met by violent force. C.S.A. naval units have been put on high alert in the Gulf of Mexico and East Coast, with dozens of National Guard Divisions being activated in reply to the State of Virginia's announcement of a "State of Emergency". The governors of Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi have also announced a State of Emergency due to the dozens of race riots (blacks vs whites) taking place in the cities, mobilizing their own State and private militias to restore order in places such as New Orleans. (National Guardsmen of the Louisiana National Guard patrol the streets of New Orleans in an attempt to restore order to the chaotic riots sparked by the local African-American population) - Timothy Dalton, CNN

OOC: I think I'll place the flag of the nation that I'm posting as at the top of the post so that no one is confused...We'll see how it goes... To President Jefferson Samuel Davis, I would like to extend my hand in friendship to you and your people. While there are striking differences between our two nations I hope that these can be placed aside so that our people can enjoy the plethora of benefits that they would undoubtedly receive if our two governments were to work in harmony on this continent that we both share. I have also been following the events transpiring in the United States of America with interest and wish you the best in your endeavour. I would be honored to host you here in Woodstock or, if it would be more preferable to you, I can meet you in the place of your choice within your nation. Premier Felix Hamrin

As the C.S.A. is in the process of selecting a new capitol for itself at the moment, I request that our meeting be held in the S.C.S. capitol city of Woodstock, where I shall arrive by airplane in three days to meet your own respected person.
I look forward to visiting the Socialist Commonwealth, and meeting you in person.

OOC - Done.
Washington D.C. Capitol Building
Moving swiftly through the empty streets of Capitol Hill, Colonel Jesse T. Moore quietly grinned at the once proud structures of Yankee power (Capitol Building, Supreme Court, and House of Representatives) now under "Southern" control. Whatever resistance that had initially been formed to counter the latest flood of Confederate troops had either surrendered or fled the city at the sight of the "Army of Virginia" (Virginian National Guard Divisions under the command of General Irwin McDowell), leaving nothing but a motley crowd of rioting negros and frightened civillians cowering in McDowell's path. Despite the chaos of the situation, General Irwin McDowell took very little time in restoring order to the conflicted city, ordering his men to the streets in a temporary period of "martial law" with set curfews.
Hundreds of rioting African Americans were dealt with in the harshest manner by the Virginian National Guard, with all literally being shot or lynched on sight by the vengeful Guardsmen. After a furious firefight in the "black" parts of Washington D.C., there were few trees in the city that didn't hold the swinging corpses of dead men. Order was quickly restored.
Glancing at a motorcade of heavily armored cars approaching the Capitol Building, Colonel Moore swiftly snapped a sharp salute with the barrel of his M-16A2 assault rifle, immediately recognizing the convoy of vehicles to be the President's personal motorcade that had departed from Atlanta, Georgia to observe this historic event. Taking a leaf from the Colonel's book, the men of Moore's company immediately lined up in neat lines to greet the President of the C.S.A., hastily straightening their profiles to look all the more impressive for their new leader.
"Good morning, Mr. President..." greeted Moore reverently as Jefferson Davis stepped out from the interior of his armored car, "My name is Colonel Jesse Moore of 1st Division, Virginia National Guard.. It is my pleasure to give you the 'Yankee Capitol Building', fully intact, with the city of Washington D.C.."
Jefferson S. Davis stood silent before the majestic sight before him, struggling to take in the fullness of what had happened in the former center of American power. Once the very symbol of Yankee oppression, the "Crown Jewel of the North" was now entirely in his hands, living testimony of the massive strength the C.S.A. held over the American continent. Struggling to compose himself, Davis stumbled feverishly up the stairs of the Capitol Building with the mixed feelings of joy and euphoria threatening to explode from his chest, and stared over the beauty of his surroundings.
"Thank God almighty, Colonel..." blubbered Davis, shedding tears as he stared off into the horizon, "This war is finally over, and we are free at last..."

Woodstock
Premier Felix Hamrin walked through the streets of Woodstock, a massive entourage containing government officials, military and civil personnel, and city workers following behind him. Premier Hamrin gazed back and forth, first looking to his left and then his right, personally inspecting the job that the city officials of Woodstock had done in cleaning up the city and preparing it for the most distinguished guest that the Socialist Commonwealth would host soon enough.
"There!", Hamrin barked pointing his finger at a building where there was a large bin of trash overflowing with all types of gunk. "I want no filth of any kind to be visible!"
The city workers who were following along with the rest of the group simply obeyed their orders and began their dirty work. Leaving the workers behind to fix the problem Premier Hamrin had seen the Premier walked to the end of the street before turning left onto Woodstock's main street and the sight where President Jefferson Davis would be courted down before meeting the Premier.
Banners of all kinds adorned the sides of the buildings as well as flags of the Commonwealth being hung from the windows and from the light poles that lit the sidewalks at night. The sidewalks and streets had all been cleaned days before and, in an effort to boost the Commonwealth's image even more, the homeless were informed that they would not be allowed within the city limits of Woodstock for the time being.
Yes, it looked grand and Hamrin intended it to stay that way at least until President Davis had left with a good and sound impression of the SCS...

To Premier Felix Hamrin:
Due to the President's busy schedule, Mr. Davis will unfortunately be able to attend the planned meeting with the Socialist Commonwealth, as he is currently in the process of negotiating a joint Spanish-American alliance with President Manuel Azana of the Republic of Spain. However, as the Confederate States of America's Secretary of State, I will personally visit the S.C.S. on behalf of my nation and meet with you to discuss the possibilities of further economic/political ties between our two nations and a "limited" alliance between the C.S.A. and S.C.S. in the Northern American Continent.
I hope you will not be in any way disappointed by my arrival.
- Secretary Pat Roberts, Secretary of State (C.S.A.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Woodstock
Upon stepping onto the rain-soaked pavement of the Woodstock National Airport, Secretary Pat Roberts was immediately taken aback by the unnaturally warm welcome he received from the people of the former Canadian province, and was surprised to see that far from languishing in poverty and starvation, the people of the Socialist Commonwealth all looked happy and "well-fed". It was a shock to the native Lousiana man, but a welcome shock indeed. The Confederate States of America certainly had no qualms in negotiating with a socialist state (so long as the said nation was open to a "civil" talk) and would most likely need the help of the only other nation in North America to defend the continent in the event of an over-anxious foreign power attempting to "expand" its power into the the region.
Glancing towards the central figure of the welcoming committe, Roberts quickly saw the figure of Premier Henrin waving a red, black, and yellow scarf at his arrival. While certainly not a "grand" sight by any means (a tall, lanky man with a balding head and the neck of a vulture), Pat Roberts was most definitely not one to waste the time of both parties in senseless "camera-courting" and promptly made his way towards the Premier to show his thankfulness at the warm welcome.
"Good morning, Premier Henrin.." greeted Roberts, bowing his bald head low in a gesture of respect, "I am Secretary Pat Roberts of the Confederate States of America, and I am glad to be in the warmth of your fine country..."
"I hope, Premier, that I am not a disappointing sight to your eyes... As you were undoubtedly expecting President Davis to attend this meeting.."

Premier Felix Hamrin was ecstatic and he tried to hold back his excitement but unfortunately he let it slip a bit when he greeted his esteemed guest by waving his scarf. Being a former province of Canada, it should have come to no surprise to Secretary of State Pat Roberts that the temperature was a little chilly for his comfort but what did surprise him was the sudden appearance of a low-front, which had brought a small storm system into the region. Shielding from the light drizzle of rain was provided by SCS troops as Secretary Roberts made his way towards the relatively small welcoming committee that awaited him. Premier Hamrin extended his hand and greetings were exchanged. "I would not necessarily call this warmth", Hamrin joked, "But I understand what you mean and I wish to thank you for participating in this historic moment..." "To be honest, I was expecting the President but I can certainly understand and relate...There are no problems, please...", Premier Hamrin said extending his left arm back behind him showing the American Secretary the limo that awaited to take them to Parliament. As Secretary Roberts was escorted to the limousine he was introduced to the other members of the welcoming committee, highlighted by the various party leaders and even one of the Commonwealth's military generals. Once inside the main limousine, containing only the Premier and the Secretary, Hamrin began by thanking the Confederate States again for their willingness to begin relations with the Socialist Commonwealth. "Socialism and Communism have had their images tainted by the outrageous actions of past governments and despots and it was a dream of Alex's (Schiermannhoven) that one day the ideals of the left would unite peacefully and coexist with the other citizens of the world...Today you are helping that dream be achieved and the Commonwealth cannot thank your government enough for it..." The drive was a short one, mainly due to the fact that Woodstock was still a relatively small city compared to the likes of Atlanta or even Rome. Nevertheless, Woodstock was quickly becoming a bustling metropolis and was highlighted by the Parliament building, aptly named the 'Palace of the Soviets'. Towering over Woodstock and the entire Socialist Commonwealth the Palace was meant to be a demonstration of socialist/communist triumph in their quest for a homeland. At the top of the colossus that was Parliament was a golden statue of Alexander Schiermannhoven, pointing out toward the people of the Commonwealth and providing them with a sense of divine power. The limo now began its cruise down the main street of Woodstock, the palace dwarfing all before it, and Hamrin quickly summed up where his guest was being taken. "I had assumed that President Davis would make a small speech to Parliament, but you are not obligated in the least to speak...If you wish we could continue on to my office, which is also located inside, and begin the matter of which you have come today..." <--- Palace of the Soviets OOC: Just to let everyone know, I'll slowly be pushing more 'soviet' stuff into my posts to reflect the fact that the SCS is a haven for socialists and communists alike and the true meaning of 'soviet' could apply to both philosophies...Biggest change will probably be that the nation name will change to 'Soviet Socialist Commonwealth of Schiermannhoven' (SSCS)....If there are any questions please feel free to PM me...

"Indeed..." murmured Roberts, staring at the enormous structure before him, "That is a magnificent building..."
After taking some time to admire the colossal display of architectural skill, Pat Roberts turned his attention back to his host, clearing his throat in the process.
"Premier Henrin.." quipped the Southerner, "As much as I would like to give a speech to the people of the Socialist Commonwealth, I am sure that the both of us would prefer to get 'down to business' in your office before any premature speeches are made."
Seeing the furrow of Henrin's brow crease slightly at his words, the American raised his hands in reassurance and added several more words to his dialogue with the Premier. As a political animal who had spent countless years in the U.S. and (more recently) the Confederate Congress, Roberts had risen to his rank not because of his "dashing good looks" or "personal charisma", but rather his speaking talent.
"Of course...." added Roberts, "I would be more than willing to address the people of the Socialist Commonwealth after the formalities between our two nations are written down in ink.. Believe me, it's best to get the dull part of politics over with before celebrations..."
