Hmmmm. I do see what you are saying Ignatius but are you truly happy with the restrictions and stuff holding us down? AR is much different from normal RP and what I mean by using new tech is to incorporate it into your main nation. AR is for random new-storyline RPs that are hardly ever popular. And we're not going sci-fi, just advancing a bit into the future. Of the 15-20 billion total population in the RP boards, I would think that someone would have come up with some of these things...

There's no need to advance into the future, as the current system works excellent as it is right now. Moon colonization is unthinkable and unrealistic in this day and age, and should be left to AR.
Regarding population, numbers are simply numbers and have never had a serious impact on the current RP system in regards of food and/or living space. Over the years, we've simply disregarded the unnatural numbers generated by our NS profiles and strived to make RP a high-quality, realistic venture designed to 'share' the writing skills of each player in an intelligent environment.
The restrictions on sci-fi and RAFT (radical application of future technology) have ensured that RP stays realistic and of fine quality, and has generated wonderful storylines before in the past. Before sci-fi and RAFT restrictions were put into place by Rob, RP generally consisted of several outlandish scenarios that eventually ground into a halt (check the archives), something which we definitely do not want with NS steadily declining in popularity as it is.
Just leave AR to AR, and modern tech to modern tech..

I do have to agree with Iggy here. Because who knows what technology we might end up with in a few years, and we don't want to run the risk of godmodding, which is bad.
Just my two cents...

Canton just gave me a great idea. We split the board into two boards. One near-future, the other modern tech. Everyone can RP in both, just near-future is 10-20 years ahead, new factfiles, stuff like that, if you want. I think this is a fantastic idea.

Right, I will be keeping the Main RP room as it is and has been for some time. However should there be enough support for it the AR room will be set up as a future tech area, say 2050 and with strict rules about what is and isnt feasable.
I have noticed that since this particular idea was announced posting has dropped dramaticaly, something that has disapointed me as we had a good thing going. I ask that people get back into the great RP's we have going as things will not be changing anytime soon in here.

When you say, "...with strict rules about what is and isn't feasible," could you please elaborate that for me.

Well if its set in 2050 I wouldnt expect us to have discovered the Force and other such psychic powers. Things of that nature basically.
There would obviously be consultation on the rules. I wouldnt just go all 'Ten Commandments' on you.

Luckily for you, guidelines are in the making for this department.
Now it does sound like a great idea to have a set of nice rules for AR (as guidelines are to be universally applied somehow) but when I do get around to RP my nation (whenever I am not doing Admin work one day when I hit 99.7) they do have certain abilities but I strictly use it within their race.
I would like to see the role playing section open to everyone without too too many restrictions is all.

I am with Durandal on this one, we could have some rules for Near future tech that we would all vote on. The splitting of the boards is a waste of time, but if it makes y'all feel better, I'm fine with it. So we don't go over board, there must be strict resrictions. Such as was suggested earlier, the guns would have to be re calibrated, recharged, long reloading process whatever. Durandal has hit a goldmine. Plus those RP's that you say are so "Popular" are way too complicated for the average layman, such as myself, to understand. Call me dumb, call me thick, whatever, but I am behind Durandal on this one and if You have to leave to make your point, so be it. This region is all about new Ideas, and we can't be stuck in the past forever. If me and durandal are the only people Rp'ing after the rule change, fine by me. You people can still RP with the present tech, no one said you couldn't. This is an awesome Idea, and, in fact, Durandal has been our most fervent RP'er since I've been here. I am behind Durandal, and, if I have to make this long of a post to make a point I will do this until I leave, my nation dies out, whatever.

Well, since Rob is now the MoRP, he has the final say. But Tallsville is right. We could attract a new group of RPers, along with the old ones, to this new idea. We could place this idea into our recruitment letter to further encourage lovers of this form of RP to join. I, personally, enjoy the regular RP. But there was something missing. A certain "creativity", if you will, of RP. There are so many restrictions on what we can and can't do, that we have been limited to already existing technologies. We have gotten away with using made up vehicles but that's even limited to modern tech. Raising some restrictions will allow us to be more creative, a great deal more. And isn't that what RP's all about? Creativity?

Tallsville I won't be leaving this forum any time soon. I've been around for nigh on 2 years and spent one and a half of them as MoRP. When I took that job no-one was RPing because of the crazy stuff that had taken place before with future tech, that is why I put the ban on it and made the Present Day rule.
Then later people decided they wanted some AR as wel so I let them do that, I didnt put any rules on that...just kept my eye on it for the usual Godmodding etc. Thats why Zelda was able to take place etc.
People seem to have forgotten that the AR forum is there without restriction, I only asked people to use common sense. If you dont understand the current RP in the main area then theres nothing stopping you making your own, or starting one in the AR section.
Simply put the 2 sections being seperate allow for both views and wants to be taken. The modern day RP section can remain, while the AR section can become this futuristic thing you guys want. Surely thats the fairest way.
If you like we can rename the sections, modern day and futuristic, offer people a choice. But I will not be bullied into changing the main RP section when we already have a futuristic section. Simply put, I fail to see how I am restricting your creativity........

Personally, from my view, AR has rules just applied differently.
Now changing the sections names, sure, why not? Something more creative for each.
Nonetheless either way we see it, the Role Playing Guidelines Act (in development), will ease many questions/concerns/etc (I hope) when it comes to role playing universally, pre/now/post modernly, and advanced technologies.

Sorry I haven't jumped in until now, but I like to sit back and watch things progress a little. This is an interesting discussion and while I did choose to have my main nation leave I have kept my other nation here hoping that things could be jump started. You guys can give me as much shit as you want for me leaving Hyrule but as best as I can remember I am still the only person who has been here since the beginning, even before Rob if you all can believe that. Its important that we get a few things straight, so as not to continue repeating them in posts, before moving onto what is really important...
None of you should be blaming Rob for what has occurred because at the time "desperate times called for desperate measures." I don't know, nor do I think, that anyone has gazed back in the RP Archives recently but if you have I think you would quickly notice how chaotic RPing was then. Rob is absolutely correct in stating that RPing had completely died in response to the chaos of the HTO, which was fueled by nations believing that there were no limitations in terms of technology and culminated in the collapse of RPing when we (the nations at the time) decided to colonize space.
I don't mean to smash my seniority in your face but would like to use it as a lesson everyone can learn from. I've come a long way from the simple "noob" I was almost 3 years ago and I've seen a lot happen. With this in mind, I have to say that the idea of two boards should be done away with. As has been said, we can easily combine "modern" and "near-future" with logical and fair limitations. For these limitations we obviously all need to come to a consensus and I would be honored to be included in future discussions...Sorry if grammar is bad, I just flew through this post...

I'm not blaming anyone. I'm just saying that we should, maybe I should have used this earlier, encourage people to RP in AR. It seems like the AR section is a hodge-podge of futuristic RPs with no relation to each other. We should build it up.
For example, like Canton and I, people could make futuristic versions of their nation's factfiles for AR. If you'll take what is happening in AR atm, you can see that we have started to connect RPs using our nations as the connections. This is what I suggested in the first place, just a lot more extreme. I know it is unfeasible to split the boards, I'm even happy with the name "AR", but people should know that it is a spot where they can be creative with their nations. They don't have to post just random future threads in there that are hundreds of years ahead of our time, not that that is the case. But people might think so.
I would like for people who want this, to be encouraged to go ahead and advance their nations, not be restricted to the modern tech. Some people like that, but there is also a lot of people who want to be able to be creative with their nation with things that don't exist.
What I mean is being creative in the way that they can make their own technologies and machines, not in the way that they would be making "immortals" and "excalibers". That is Godmodding, and I hate it as much as the next guy (or girl). We just need to advertise the AR as a section for future nations, not just random future stories.

I'm under the belief that we have decentralized things a little too much, in the sense that people feel that one board is too oppressive while the other is too lax and chaotic. I believe we need to combine everything back together again under one board but still allow people to advance their nation to a logical limit. It would make things much more simple and efficient but still allow everyone to RP in one place, with no worries that the threads don't connect with each other. I also agree with you about advertising the RP and that is something we and Kam are going to have to work on...
